Rougned Odor is the perfect example of how contracts/financials could be worked on
In the initial Beta release loading up as a Live Start with the Orioles the Orioles showed to be on the hook Odor's contract at $12mil this season and $13.5mil Team Option next year. That issue is at least partially been addressed in the new Beta release and shows approriately that he signed a $700,000 1-year contract with them this year. Next year now shows the $13.5 Team Option which of course can be voided for nothing.
It is the Rangers of course who are on the hook for that remaining contract but basically shows nothing for the Rangers (Not even in Misc Expenses). I believe last year in the trade with the Yankees they retained all but league minimum that Yankees paid. Yankees then released him over the summer. Next year is the team option year for the Rangers which they can of course void. But the interesting part is that if they do the Rangers have to pay I believe like $3mil.
So it would be nice in negotiations to be able to have buyout options similar to Salary retention such as in a trade. I do not know if the Yankees had to pay this year's minimum when they released him or not
I do not know what can be done with the Financial/Contract system to mirror the MLB more closely. But the Rangers should still be penalized appropriately financially. And obviously with Baltimore being so low budget anyways that initial contract would have really hampered them for sure.
