Exclamation Crashes or game freezing? See here!

Hi guys!

For the majority of folks the game should be very stable at this point. However we are getting a few reports of unexpected crashes or freezes.

If that's happening to you, don't panic, we are working on things and we can help.

There are a few steps for you to try first though.
  1. Try rebooting your system.
  2. Update your graphic and sound card drivers (if you're on a PC). On a Mac make sure you have the latest OS update installed. If not, then please install it.
  3. If you are on a PC, run the game / installer as admin (right-click on icon, select run as admin)
  4. Also if you are on a PC, make sure to check the hard drive OOTP is installed on for errors/and or run defrag on it.
  5. On Steam, make sure to uncheck the Steam overlay. Go to the Steam menu then to settings > in-game > and untick the 'enable the steam overlay while in game' checkbox.
  6. If you use Discord, try turning that overlay off as well.
  7. If you are in windowed mode try switching to fullscreen mode. In a few cases this has fixed issues with the game freezing for folks. We're working on figuring out a fix but this might help for now.
  8. Go to settings > troubleshooting > force game data re-installation and click that. Let the game do its thing. Then restart your game and try again.
  9. Another suggestion for anyone still having issues would be to update Direct X on your system to the latest version. That solved some crashing issues for at least one customer. Also, it might be worthwhile to make sure that you have the latest Microsoft Visual C+++ files installed (2017).
  10. If that doesn't help, to try to narrow down what might be causing problems, try the following:
    - First, restart your computer.
    - Then make sure to create an exception or whitelist OOTP in your anti-virus and firewall programs. Or, even better, completely disable both for a little while (To reduce any risks, disconnect the computer from the network first).
    - Then shut down any non-essential programs that are running other than OOTP.
    - Then start OOTP up and try playing for a while and see if it still crashes in the same place.
    - If not, then you'll basically just want to play the game without anything else running in the background, since one of those programs was likely causing issues with the game.
  11. If the crash is happening when playing out a game in 3D, please try this: Go to the 3D and facegen screen on the settings tab and then set the audience detail to simplified, and/or lower the audience quality. If the game still crashes while playing out a game, try lowering both settings all the way and/or switching them off entirely. Also, go to 3D settings and select OpenGL with Fastblit mode and try playing a game with that set.

If it still crashes, then we'll need some more information from you.

So please let us know the following:
  1. Are you on a PC or Mac?
  2. What OS are you using?
  3. Do you have the game on Steam or the Standalone or a different version (please name it)?
  4. If you are on a Mac, what specific model Mac do you have? Also if you're on a Mac please attach the Mac crash report that pops up after a crash.
  5. What are your system specs (especially your video card and your amount of memory)?
  6. Where exactly does your game crash? What are you doing just before it crashes? Can you consistently get the crash to repeat by doing the same thing or is it seemingly random? Do you get an error message? If so, what?
  7. Does this crash in only one saved game or in multiple saves? If only one, then we'll need to see your league files as per the instructions here (or you can just upload to Dropbox/Google Drive and post a link)
  8. It would also help us to have the game generated trace file.

To generate that on a Windows PC, do the following:

If you're on Steam, right-click on your game in the Steam library, then Properties, and on the General menu click on 'Set Launch Options' and enter the word "tracemode" (without quotes.).

If you have the standalone, right-click on the OOTP23 shortcut on your desktop, click on properties and add 'tracemode' to the command line

Then try to start the game again. Get it to crash.

After it does so, navigate to the following folder: Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 23\debug

Find the trace file there and post with the rest of your information. That should have some data that will help us figure out why the game is crashing.

Please post that information in a separate thread in the bug reports forum. We'll take a look at the report as soon as possible and get in touch with you as soon as we can if we need more information.

PC Game Screen Flashes

On PC, Widows 10 - When I switch to full screen mode or adjust my OOTP window frame, the game blinks every 2-3 seconds. I am then frozen. I can adjust it back to full size and back to a smaller window but the image of the full screen is cut off and the game freezes.

My game has crashed twice while attempting to open packs in 3D. Worked around it by switching off 3D, and I'm thinking that unlike in 22, 3D is not possible for fail-tier computers like mine.

Will make some changes, including running OOTP as administrator, and report back as necessary.

Feeder leagues crashes RULES tab and game

New fictional league, 2 divisions, 8 teams each. Advanced mode.

When I click on the RULES tab after selecting 16 teams and changing nothing else (no minors, feeders, anything), the rules will appear.

Once I add minors, I can still click the RULES tab and all is good. When I add feeder leagues, the RULES tab crashes the entire game and the game closes.

Duplicated this many times.

In the folder above there are league files. For the game that keeps crashing, copy just the files ending in .DAT and zip them in a folder with the zip file being the name of your league. Those are the files Markus will need to isolate the problem. Instructions on how to upload them are here:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=335985

After posting, edit this post and state the name of the zip.

How can I do this, as the game crashes before I get a chance to save it? There are no save points between starting the league creation and where it crashes....

In this case, a trace file might help. Instructions on generating one are here: https://support.ootpdevelopments.com...debug-log-file

You'd need to send it from after the crash, but before you restart the game.

Reporting back with some more findings. Made program run as administrator and disabled OpenGL for troubleshooting purposes, still crashes.

Fairly convinced at this point that this computer just can't do full pack openings until I can actually afford to put a working graphics card in the PC again.

EDIT: In-game action works completely fine in 3D, so this issue is isolated to PT packs.

Game Crashed every time I change Window Size in Settings

Every time I change the Windows size in settings the game crashed and I have to reopen the game. When the game is reopened the new Settings Value was successful and the game is displayed properly. This is just a minor issue, unless you change during gameplay for some reason (your game is saved). Running in most current version of MACOS.

Yes, this is a known issue we're working on fixing.

A trace file would really help here as well. And some more info on your system specs too. Thanks!

Trace file attached. Also attached is a Speccy text file which should list all the information you need about my system.

Thanks for any help.

Just went to open my game from yesterday and it made me re-type the license, and then after I did that, every option was grayed out. I couldn't continue from last night. Yea, I don't understand what happened here. If Markus, Lukas, or anybody else can assist me, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

EDIT: It still continues to require me to re-type the license key every time I open the program. And then everything, including starting a brand new 2022 league is grayed out, so nothing is clickable.

Double Edit as of 2:39 PM EST. Started it up through my files without clicking the icon by loading the league I created. However, when I advance day or click continue, it never sims to the next day.

Crash on: Mac (Monterey 12.2)

Testing an online league setup in OOTP 23 and getting a repeated crash with the following sequence:

Manager Dropdown -> Other Human Managers -> Add/Edit Managers.

If I press "ESC" to exit that screen OOTP crashes (repeated this numerous times). It does not crash if pressing the "Cancel" button.

File has been uploaded to OOTP server named: Beta + Nippon - Crash.lg.zip

Game crashes when creating custom game

I've been trying to create a custom game with the MLB, *** and KBO, and the game keeps crashing. Never had this issue before.

win 11, amd radeon 570 gpu

everything starts up but with facegen and OpenGL disabled. when I select these options and try to play a game, crashes every time.
This happened last year as well and tech support was unable to solve the issue. I thought I would give it another chance this year but may have to just get a refund.
Mark

UPDATE:
I was able to fix this problem. The problem is caused by switchable GPUs. Win 11 has a setting in its advanced graphics setting that enables you to apply fixed GPU settings to specific apps. I simply uploaded the ootp exe and chose my preferred GPU and it solved the problem.

Just downloaded the 41 beta patch. Type in the license key, and then all the menu options become unclickable. What do I do?
