Question Steam Vs OOTP site version of 23

I'm looking forward to buying the game the minute it is released. Just one last question. I have never bought the Steam version before but do have a Steam account. I like chasing achievements. I see that OOTP has Steam achievements but are they any different then the ones listed in challenge mode with the version to buy on the OOTPdevelopments site?

Basically are there any benefits to getting the Steam version with the exception that achievements will show up for steam?

I like never having to remember what my license is. If I buy a new computer and choose to do so, I can install every version from 16 forward. Not sure why I would want to, but I can.

I like it that patches automatically install with Steam.

Most of all, I like to buy from Steam so Markus and company don't get all the money............................Joking

Wish I could help there, but I just don't know. Sweed buys from Steam. I bet he would know.

I am not sure it helps but I just looked at my 22 version on steam and there are 169 achievements. Don't know if there is a way to check the number on the non-steam version.

The advantage with Steam is The Steam Workshop. The Workshop contains most of the "must have" mods and installs them for you. The price you pay is not getting the game three days early. With retirement and more time to play I can now also dabble in historical along with my current dynasty. This is why I went to Steam the last 2 versions.

How it tracks achievements? No idea, they mean nothing to me I wish I could be of some help but... there it is

Thank you David Watts, Maddox & Sweed. I'm definitely going with the Steam version after all the information you guys gave me.

Maddox I was able to check the achievements and the Challenge mode ones have 144 vs Steams 169. Now all I need to know is if those achievements will show up on both Steam and the Challenge mode screen.
This will be my 1st year in retirement and I plan to play a lot myself. I skipped all of last year.

Sweed I didn't even know about the mod workshop. Sounds great. I hope they have a mod for sound. I remember playing my very first baseball sim called MicroLeague baseball and it played the last few bars of the National Anthem before the game started.

I always purchase thru OOTP, but if Steam has the workshop, then its a no brainer for me as I am a big fan of silvam's parks, sure would be easier for this old guy on a computer. Thanks for the info

Oh wow! How could I forget the Steam Workshop. Yes, that's a huge plus. For someone that is zip file challenged, the Steam Workshop is nirvana, Or The Kinks since I'm old.

Yes, the Workshop is incredible. Not only does it have the Silvam's stadiums, butt it has mods with minor league parks. It has historical uniforms and caps. One of the coolest mods released is the one that provides uniforms and caps for all the OOTP fictional nicknames.

If you want online achievements use Steam. The Challenge Mode site no longer tracks achievements or leaderboards, and the signature you used to get there is now only for Perfect Team... so challenge mode only has negatives at this point. Most of the Challenge Mode functionality was not implemented for ver 22 and it appears to be getting redirected towards other aspects. I've asked about it a couple times and did not receive a response so I am betting there are few enough customers interested in it that they are just hoping it kind of gets forgotten about.

Steam Achievements have a few that don't seem to work... but there are fewer broken achievements than there were on the OOTP 21 Challenge Mode site for what that's worth. You do have in game achievements if you don't mind not seeing ones you have not accomplished yet. Personally, I like steam because I end up using one's I have not accomplished as an extra in game goal.

Thank you for all the information. I do plan on getting the Steam version. I just looked up OOTP 23 on Steam and under the profile it does not even show that it will have ANY achievements. The other OOTPs show that they have achievements when you look it up on Steam. I hope OOTP didn't decide to abandon them altogether.

No Achievements is a deal breaker for me and I will not be purchasing it then. I already buy 1 expensive Baseball game for live head to head and you can manage the whole team.

I buy OOTP cause it has a better single player game and has achievements. Maybe the Achievements will appear on release date. As of now Steam does not have ANY listed as it did in the past.
