I usually play current MLB as GM or GM/Mgr with no Commish control. Might get back into Fictional, but it takes a lot of prep work and I just don't have the time right now.
Personally, Perfect Team is kind of fun early on, but quickly turns into a loot box hell where you have to keep up with the Joneses to advance. MEH, I have much better things to do with my time.

***, historical MLB or trying to rebuild my beloved Mariners are my main modes of play in OOTP. I think '23, I will try to dabble in more international league play or start my own fictional league.

not my own way of playing, but I almost always pick a team and do a current year startup and see how things unload.

One modern save and several historical. I hit a random number generator to see which one I’m playing in each day. I’m the White Sox in all of them.

Fictional world, fictional player, God Mode... that's my favorite way to play.

Can I ask for a quick explanation as to what "god mode" is?

It's really just commish mode. i don't control a team.

But i do make changes to the league from time to time. I have a set time for when and how the league evolves; including expansion and adding feeder leagues.

I usually play all current rosters with current teams as GM/Manager in Commish Mode. But my focus is on drafting and development of minor league players. And I usually end up trading all my veterans at the major league level for prospects.

It’s a lot of hit and miss, but it’s my favorite part of the game. I rarely have financial issues because players are turned over before they get expensive. Occasionally, but not always, I sometimes add an additional year or two to team control over players (arbitration). It’s my game and I play it as I want. If I get lucky and draft a superstar, I certainly don’t want to lose him before he helps me bring in better prospects.

This is exactly what I would like to do, but I can't figure out how to import real players into my fictional league. How do you do it?

starts with current league and in 10 to 15 seasons it becomes fictional anyways always fun. I play out 90% of each season and every game of playoffs. Have had 3 solo leagues now starting over again this time lamenting having to leave the solo behind due to database issues. I am going to use same settings i had in latest solo. I will cheer and cry with all of you solo players too. I loved it when i seen some of you have walls of champions thought that was cool over the years. Perhaps should be a thread to show them again

I always am GM/Manager of the Padres and I auto-play all games and just run the franchise and set lineups. I play about 70 seasons over the course of a year and then buy the next version and start over. One of these years I will change it up and pick a smaller market team and see how long it takes to turn things around.

I'm the opposite. I like to have real leagues with fictional players.

I have a global setup that works quite amazingly, I absolutely love following it.

USBL-American league in some of the not-so-international cities in America (Indy, SA, Vegas, Saint Louis, Hartford, SLC, etc) doesn't allow any foreigners, 9 years of arbitration

now up to 3 tiers, with pro/rel every year between all 3

WBA-4 years arb, teams all over the world (Sydney, Kolkata, London, Mexico City, Toronto plus NYC, LA, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, Boston, etc). 3 tiers (12-16-16)

Asian Super League-allows 2 foreigners

Euroleague-4 foreigners I think

Commonwealth-2-4 foreigners, can't recall at moment, league based in Cricket Nations

have added some independent leagues (SoCal, Chicago, NYC, Africa, UK) for now

each team plays a 66 game regular season schedule but lots of cups

every team comes to play Baseball Cup in preseason as a sort of Spring Training tournament (13 game group stage, 16 teams make it to knockout)

then in-season you have continental cups on Tues-Wed (10-18 game regular seasons than a one-week knockout finale held in same place yearly. Asian Cup, Euro-African Cup, Cup of the Americas. regular season plays Fri-Sun

postseason you have Champions League (6 teams qualify, 5 from WBA/USBL which are rivals for top league and 1 from ASL/euro/common)

then Global cup (8 teams qualify: 3 from asl/euro/common and 5 from WBA/USBL)

after the club season we have the international season which rotates between World Cup (2 rounds of qualifying) and Nations League (10 team leagues A-E with pro/rel)

in January/Feb we have States League and National Championship (each state has their own team), then cricket style invitationals and series (The Ashes which is Aus-Eng, USA-Canada, East Asian Championship, Six Nations, Taiwan Invitational, etc)

I started with a fictional league (CBL), I've been playing that league for years - just finished the 2020 season.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=210561

I also have been replaying MLB from 1915 to present day. And, I'm replaying the 1977 season.

creating fictional leagues and then simulating until the last day of the regular season and watching the game one game that has the most impact on the playoff race and then in the playoffs watch simulate until game 7 of each series and watch that game

Fictional teams, fictional players... usually the same setup each time - 2SL, 2D, 6T... 3 levels of Minors, a NCAA feeder, and an Indy league to keep the scrubs busy.

As it plays out, I make up back stories for the players, teams, etc in my head... get real nerdy with it. Keeps me entertained for hours on end.

I typically do my USBL fictional save. 32 teams, all based in non-MLB cities. I simulate from 1960-2021 and then take over a team as GM only.

I am working on finalizing the teams and minor league cities.

I always start with a random debut where I am the commissioner only and couple it with one of two things. Pick a franchise from their first year and manage that team through their history or pick a season with a good pennant race and manage the team that fell short to see if I can change their fortunes.

I am thinking of trying fictional this time around. I have never started a fictional world before and it may be interesting to play without having a pre conceived notion of how a players career should turn out.

On one hand, I hate the 'ultimate team' formula and the heavy monetization inherent to its design. But on the other hand, I love the idea of games like this running live and in real-time. So, while I don't want to like Perfect Team, it actually might be my favorite way to play OOTP. At least until the monetization develops further and takes over.
