Historical Players - Fictional Leagues

A question I'm sure everyone would like to know..

Can I create a fictional league with historical players?

Short answer is yes. I create a custom fictional league every year and fill it with historical teams, e.g. 1967 RedSox, 2010 Rangers, etc.

I do the same thing it is my favorite way to play. This year I am thinking of adding teams to a fictional deadball league with teams from 1901 to 1919. Then what I do is play so many games with each team. I play all the games out. It's a blast!

If you enjoy random debut it's really easy to create fictional leagues using historical players.

Related to this topic: in OOTP 22 or 23, is it possible to create a historical league (say using the Phillies) but with all historical players from say 1900-2022)

How would I do this?

There are many ways to have a fictional league with real players. Easiest way is to create a text file and import the players. The screenshots are a Twitter created league. Jesters is my AAA team. All players are rookies. i traded way a few players for pitching depth. You can also run a historical RD league in conjunction with a fictional league and just release the draft class each offseason and schedule a FA draft. i am in year 4 on a league like this and so far it's fun

Are you looking for the players to be on the teams they played with IRL, or are you lookin' to mix it up a little? Not being a smartass, but remember that historical players will only run through 2021. You can play a standard game from 2022 forward, but historical leagues won't run through 2022...

...Unless you play random debut, in which case, depending on the number of rounds in your draft (I play with five), you can probably stretch things for about 150 years, give or take. Love, love, love the random debut, but you may not want to have players show up on teams, other than the ones they played for.

Just wanted to give those who've never tried Random Debut Historicals a feel for what the dispersal of talent looks like. My game is just through the 1935 season. The draft is on deck. My rookie pools are filled with players from 1871 through 2019 (OOTP 21 game), and they can debut in any amateur draft pool. Think of it as your own baseball time machine, which brings all historical players together, in one league. I have put players that debuted in 2020 via OOTP22 in there as well, but those guys didn't get in, until just recently, so they won't be showing up until the 1936 draft at the earliest. Once OOTP23 arrives, I'll get the 2021 debut guys in there as well, so I can see some debuts from my Blue Jays. Fortunately, Vlad, Bo, Teoscar, Lourdes etc. have not shown up in my game yet, so I'm definitely looking forward to them getting here, with some great stats to play off of, now.

Have also sprinkled in a few Spritze DB players (roughly 2% of the players in each draft pool) into my game, in case you see names that make you do a double take.

Sometimes, a visual representation is the best way to show you what you can do in Random Debut.

Since Random Debut was introduced, maybe eight versions back, I've never played any other way, and doubt I ever will.

Final visual, 1935 Amateur Draft: 80 players randomly selected from the Historical Database.odb by the game, plus 2 players selected from the Spritze DB, using a random number generator to select them from the Master.csv file, including at least one Negro Leaguer. Randomizing the Spritze guys allows me to see not just the stars of the Negro Leagues, and other leagues, but also the guys that aren't as well known.

Either in need of re-doing, or not yet downloaded. Been a while. Quite a while.

I Did Run my Own OOTP Universe by running a Custom Fictional-Historical League with Fictional Players but I've Imported Historical Players into the Draft Class annually in which all the players in the draft class are 17 or 18 Years Old starting in 1901 and Yes I've Throwed in Players from the Negro Leagues, The PCL and Minor Leagues.

Do you have a quality QS for something like this? I LOVE RD with fictional teams but I just cant get it to be perfect...you seem to have "it".

Help the stupid guy out. Quality QS? Ah...Quick Start. Damn it. I really should've done that. I backup my games like crazy, so I never think of something as smart as that. I'm better with the regular vanilla historical structure for RD games. If you want them with a fictional structure, David Watts or The Game are two guys I would have a chat with. Otherwise, just start a game, and select (I believe) Random Rookies. There's no magic to what I do, except that I limit the draft to five rounds, and use unlimited reserve rosters. I use No Minimum, and No Maximum for the minimum & maximum years setting on the Game Settings > League Settings > Historical tab

That way, if I happen to add in player seasons that go beyond the year that historical stats run through, they'll be covered. In other words, my current 35 season game is in OOTP21, which has historical stats through 2019, but if I add in players and their stats from OOTP22, and OOTP23, I'll be able to use those guys in my game, too.

If you give me some time, I'll see if I can create a QS for you, but I don't happen to have one handy.
