THE WEEK IN REVIEW:
Not a bad debut for Mr Chappell.

NEXT WEEK: OFF DAY 3 @ Houston Roughriders 4 @ Ft Worth Cowboys

ABL HAPPENINGS:
9/22:
Ardent readers may remember Kent Spargo. Found him in Australia way back in 2014. He was a legitimate prospect who had no path and wasn't progressing fast enough. Well today Montreal locked him up for 4 years and 38.4 million. He's gone 51-37 42 SV 352 in 188 G 98 GS and 740 IP with a 1.12 WHIP. I sent him north in a 5 player package for SP Justin Myers.
Rookie C David Martinez (SD) went 3-4 and homered 3 times in an 8-7 loss to New York.
Steve Littrell (MEX) evened his record at 10-10 4.07 with a 7 strike out 2 walk CG 4-hitter in a 9-0 win over Montreal.
Baltimore acquired P Josh Filgo (30 3*) from San Francisco for P Jesse Maynard (24 2.5*) and C Rich White (23 2*)
Having not seen a post-season game in 17 years and on the verge of a 2nd straight 100 loss season the LA Storm fired GM Wayne Yates and Manager Craig Carroll today. No word on replacements as of yet.
9/23:
Nick Dye (CHA) fanned 6 and walked 2 in a 4-hitter to beat Atlanta 6-0 and move a game over .500 at 12-11 4.29
San Jose clinched their 11th California Division title.
9/25:
Warren Thompson (DAL) is on the verge of a 4th straight 300 K season after his 15 strikeout performance against Houston today. The 2024 Koufax winner fanned 15 over 8 innings of 3 hit 1 run ball to win his 16th (16-8 2.87) 5-3.
Jose Rodriguez (DEN) won his career high 15th (15-8 3.57) with a 5 K 0 BB CG SHO of Las Vegas in a 7-0 win.
9/26:
Ted Tyson (DAL) struck out 10+ hitters for the 5th straight start and 16th time this season in his 1st SHO of the year beating Houston 6-0 to run his record to 12-5 2.41.
The Chicago Iron Pigs continue to raise the bar for expansion clubs as they clinched their 5th Mid-American Pennant in their 8 year existance and will be making their 6th straight post-season appearance. They are 89-63 and just 5 wins shy of breaking their 2024 record of 93-69.
9/27:
Robby Reed (WAS) struck out 8 to win his 10th (10-15 3.89) in a CG 2-hit 8-0 victory over New England.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jeff Wagy RF (SJ) 11-22 4 HR 11 RBI

10 GAMES TO GO
In the Patriot League the post-season is shaping up as follows:
  • Baltimore is +7 over Montreal at 93-59
  • San Jose clinched the California and it 96-57
  • Brooklyn leads the Punishers by 7 ½ at 89-63
  • Mexico is 85-68 up 2 ½ on Denver at 82-70

In the WC
  1. Montreal 86-66
  2. Denver 82-70
  3. NY Punishers 82-71
  4. San Diego 78-74
  5. Pittsburgh 76-76 2 GB
  6. Detroit 71-81 7 GB
  7. Arizona 71-82 7 ½ GB
  8. San Francisco 68-84 10 GB

So today it is:
  • (1) San Jose
  • (2) Baltimore
  • (3) Brooklyn
  • (4) Mexico
  • (5) Montreal
  • (6) Denver
  • (7) NY Punishers
  • (8) San Diego

Remember, the Wild Card Teams all start the series down 1-0 in a best of 3 with all games at the higher seeds park.
Next year that will change. If the 5 seed has more wins than the 4 seed they will play a true best of 3 series H/A/H

In the CL:
  • Buffalo clinched the Skyline at 96-55
  • Austin clinched the Sam Houston at 102-50
  • Lexington clinched the Eastern at 105-48
  • Chicago clinched the Mid-American at 89-63

The CL WC:
  1. Charlotte 81-71
  2. Green Bay 78-74
  3. Ft Worth 77-75
  4. Dallas 77-75
  5. NY Empire 74-77 2 ½ GB
  6. Providence 72-79 4 ½ GB
  7. Ohio 70-82 7 GB
  8. Jacksonville 69-83 8 GB
  9. San Antonio 67-85 10 GB

So as of today it looks like this:
  • (1) Lexington
  • (2) Austin
  • (3) Buffalo
  • (4) Chicago Iron Pigs
  • (5) Charlotte
  • (6) Green Bay
  • (7) Ft Worth
  • (8) Dallas
  • Bill Winston (DEN) may set a record for largest win in a batting race as he leads the PL at .352 over San Jose's George McDaniel's .304. They are the only 2 qualified hitters above .300 in the Patriot.
  • Nick Romero is leading the CL in HR (41) to Buffalo 1B Brian Flores (38) and RBI's (113) to Lexington's Jesse Geibel (100). Josh Tittle has been leading the league in SB all year but Dallas' Kevin Harrison overtook him this last week and now leads 78-74.
  • Tittle is leading the entire ABL in WAR at 9.3 with no other player at 8.
  • Jeroen de Vos is 2nd in wins (17) behind ERA leader Mike Lininger of Buffalo who has 18 and trails Lininger 5.7 to 5.6 in Pitching WAR.

POSTSEASON

WILD CARD ROUND
Holy cow. I honestly love how the WC is setup. Against all odds for a WC to get past this round but if they do we're talking legitimate chance to win. This is the 1st time it's happened and an 8 beats a 1 no less!
A 5 run 9th!

Check out game 4, no-hit in the playoffs. (Something wrong with the game, it didn't recognize the no-no)
