Ratings Question
I continue to have serious issues about certain elements of the game engine with regard to player ratings.
Perhaps I'm missing something. Can someone please explain to me how Smoky Joe Wood at age 36 has max stamina and fairly decent pitching ratings allocated to him in 1926 when the last time he pitched IRL was 2 innings in 1920? I'm using 5-year recalc. TIA G ![]() ![]()

That's with 100% accurate scouting?

First question, did you select “retire according to history”? Doesn’t look like it. I take it development is on. What about talent change randomness? That would be my guess.
When I play with historical player but with retire according to history off I usually see player’s rating take a dive after age 33 but if I replay the league some of the same player’s will have their ratings go up for a few years and then take a dive. Last edited by Reed; 02-14-2022 at 04:15 PM. |

100% scouting. No retire as per history. TCR is at 10 now but was higher when this probably mattered re Joe.
Which is probably what did it. Appreciate the feedback, thanks. G

When he runs out of RL stats, he goes on the development engine, right? The development engine could think quite highly of him concentrating on stats 1911-1913. And he has so many IPs those years compared to later years.

I have seem the same thing for Smoky Joe Wood in a save I am currently running. When I read this thread, I had to look and, sure enough, he pitched in my sim until 1921 somewhat successfully. I am pretty sure (it's been a while) that I went in at some point and adjusted his ratings thru the editor. In any case, I have retire according to history on so he was gone at the end of 1922.
In other sims, I've seen sort of the opposite happen a lot. A person, Jimmie Foxx for example, comes up as a catcher, and even with recalc at one year, he stays a catcher. Jayson Werth is another example of the exact thing happening. |

For the positional limitations, like Jimmie Foxx, the best solution is in the Advanced set-up for the Historical game. See the lower right where the positions (and stamina for SP/RP issues) can be based off the entire career. That should let them be better able to, through experience, improve at positions they played at various points in their career. So for Foxx, C, 3B and 1B. Though, keep in mind, there is an alternate universe where the manager keeps that Foxx kid behind the plate.
