Minor League Question

I asked early but will try again as its driving me crazy.
Many of the minors top prospects, who all had great years in 1965, were released by their organizations. Ie Ryan, Bench, Tenace, Oliver, Otis, Fingers, Robertson (won Triple crown in AA in 1965).
They all signed with an Independent Team.

Im playing as AA manager. (so cant be GM)

I've gone into commish, made myself GM of a MLB club, but cant do anything with them. I cant trade for them because the Independent team cannot afford any contracts. Ive tried releasing them, moving them to reserve list, purchase them, but they just stay on Independent Team or sort of sit in limbo.

Has anyone encountered this?

I realize I can go to editor and put players on various teams.(not sure if they will be re-released at end of year)

Just wondering why they would all be released like that.

Basically I used the default settings for Historical Franchise. I believe I used real minor leagues. Any other changes might have been minor (ie all star game, or award names).
Ive been playing OOTP for years and never noticed this issue. I thought maybe I had changed Active Roster age, but i didnt.

Just found it interesting that they were all top prospects, including top 10, and all released after the 1965 season.

I am still playing through 1966. Will be interesting to see what happens during off season.

I had Bob Robertson in 1965 and he won the AA Triple Crown. During offseason he was demoted to Rookie ball, then released.
