Unattended Spring Training

I like to fast forward through spring training. If I do, how does the game address it? Does it just use the current lineups and rotations, or will it use the opportunity to experiment and try out other players/

If you use your regular season lineups, it will likely sub out players mid-game but you need to have young players start to gain any experience. I always have my starting lineup (or projected starters) in and then I have my back-ups at each position and I rotate every game. That way my starters get playing time but back-ups/young players, get experience also. Then you can auto-play the games and make any changes if you have an injury.

Aside from playing out each Spring game, the choices (to assure adequate playing time and resting regulars) would be to set seven-day lineups, or use the standard RHP and LHP lineups with "depth starters" at each position, with instructions on when to start (e.g. every other game, etc.). At least that's the way I do it. (I wish there were a way to rest regulars for away games, to avoid the bus ride, as IRL.). Just remember to re-set the depth starter frequency before the regular season, so your starters don't disappear every other game. Pitching is harder to control, when you only want starters to go a few innings.

I set a starting lineup consisting mostly of players who I want to improve at a position or learn a new one. Then I set backups to play the 3rd and 5th games. Backups play two positions, one every 3rd and one every 5th. If I have two players who need to improve at or learn a position I make one the starter and the other a 2nd game starter with a backup either the 7th game or when starter tired.

This system works with 15 - 17 position players in spring training. I doubt it would work well with more.

I sim the games a week at a time. Players get adequate playing time.
