This modest, quiet intelligent man from the hill country in Kentucky started out to be a teacher, only to find he had the ability to be a fine professional baseball player. When he gained the respect of his baseball peers, he did not change as a person. He remained the ultimate team player, avoiding the self-indulgent ego he might have embraced. Ruth, Gehrig and the rest of Murders Row may have delivered the fatal blows, but Earle Combs set up the scenes of the crimes. He was the rare individual willing to stand up for himself when the occasion called for it and intelligent enough to be the team player if it meant the success of the whole. - SABR

Redid the facegen. We probably used the same starting point but mine's narrower in the cheekbones and not as orange as the one currently in the CU Facepack. I still smoothed it quite a bit overall but not as much.

Alphonse "Phonney" Martin, "Old Slow Ball", was a two-way player who pitched and played outfield in the National Association in 1872 and 1873. Born in New York, the three teams for which he played were all based in the state. The book quoted above, When Johnny Came Sliding Home, discusses his pitch repertoire, indicating that he threw a kind of slider which caused lots of foul outs. Pitching he has a 3-10 record and 4.03 ERA (86 ERA+) in 156 1/3 IP. At the plate, he had 339 PA and a .243/.248/.267 slash line and a 58 OPS+.

Martin also served in the Civil War as a teenager under the name Alphonso Martin according to a SABR report. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Redid the facegen for The_Game. He's only 148 lbs so the game thins him in a way you have to fight in the facegen software so he can appear reasonable in the game... but it's closer to the photo than what was there. Some nights, that's enough.

Need a little bit of work (I used the thin slider to close the mouth) but I prefer him with facial hair than without.

Should be the last one for a while since I redo them as I play and everything is done for 1975, so nothing until the rookie class for 1976 will show up at the end of my season.

I know I did him with a b&W pictures, so my best guess is that I used this one.

Lloyd Christenbury, who played four seasons in the majors, had sharp ups and downs in his career. His peak was in 1921 when, in 125 at-bats, he hit .352 and slugged .504 as the backup second baseman for the Boston Braves. In his other years, he played in the outfield more than in the infield. Overall, he batted .273/.362/.365 in 205 games between 1919 and 1922. After baseball, he worked as a shipping clerk. - bRef Bullpen wiki

As luckymann said, the "before" in the CU Facepack was that generic fake one tied to so many early ballplayers. Redid the facegen.

I didn't see an older (current age) one for him in the fg's that ship with the game. I have this one which I did from his first go-around with the Sox, so he is late 30's or so. It also works as a player fg for him so I had saved it as his player Historical Minors ID. It might age a little in the game if set to his current age but if you are looking for one like that, one may just have to be done from scratch.

Charles O. Finley indulged in many whims as owner of the A’s—and hiring world-class sprinter Herb Washington was one of his most fanciful experiments. Washington’s stint with Oakland (1974 and early 1975) was just part of Finley’s longstanding infatuation with “designated runners.” The track star was the second of six specialists whom the A’s employed in this role from 1967 through 1978. Washington didn’t have the longest tenure - Allan Lewis did - but he got by far the most press.

That status was often controversial. Washington came to Oakland without having played baseball since the summer between his sophomore and junior years in high school. His presence on the roster raised even more eyebrows—and voices—among teammates than Allan Lewis had during his six partial seasons with the A’s. The other specialists appeared on occasion in the field or at bat, but Washington never did either. What’s more, the pure speed of “Hurricane Herb” did not translate into high base-stealing success—he swiped 31 in 48 attempts (65 percent).

As a result, his statistical value was slightly negative, and the team could well have benefited more from a more fully rounded reserve. Yet looking back, Washington contended, “If you ranked the players on that team [in 1974] from 1 to 25, I think my value was higher than the 25th player. If I was the 25th in terms of value, I’ll take it.”

Nonetheless, Washington’s baseball career was a unique and memorable oddity—no other baseball card besides his 1975 Topps entry has shown “Pinch Run.” as a player’s position. Much more significant, though, is how this bright and personable man went on to great success in business. Washington’s company, H.L.W. Fast Track, Inc., became the largest African-American-owned McDonald’s franchisee in the United States. He has given much back to his community and schools. “Life’s pretty good,” he said contentedly in 2014. Recently, however, Washington sued the fast-food giant, alleging it pushed him out of numerous locations with corporate practices that amounted to racial discrimination. - SABR

Got a bit held up with other things today, so I'm not fully done going through Lansdowne's thread for facegen updates. I'll probably work more on it as the night goes on. I'm thinking I'll try to do some work here and there on a few guys and get an update pushed for the new year.

I'm doing a bunch of these, so I'm not highlighting all of them, just a few here and there.

Jack Wilson played 12 seasons at shortstop for the Pirates, Mariners, and Braves, with one all star appearance and one silver slugger award, both in 2004. Wilson hit over .300 for the only time in his career in 2004, and also posted career highs in OBP and SLG. This still only amounted to a 104 OPS+ (one of just two times he was an above average hitter in his career).

Unfortunately, I can't find any suitable pictures for Colmenarez at all, and the only one I can find of Hernandez is so small/blurry that the resulting facegen is really bad. Unfortunately looks like we'll have to wait until they have more official photographs available.
