MY LIFE IN 1957
EC Could Use a Little Bit of Heaven in '57 Speaking about being lonely recently, it just occurred to me... the guys and gals in my homeroom class at Murphy High School might have been lonely, too... just like me... I don't remember any of them going to proms, dances or hanging out together... don't remember any of them talking about their dates and social activities... do you think they were just like me?... maybe I wasn't an oddball... that may have been the way normal teenagers were back then... just a thought... might be some truth to it. Enough negativity... let's accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative. Come on all you little darlin's and all you buckaroos, too, let's check out Billboard Country charts and see what all the good old boys and good old gals are singing, dancing, carousing, honky tonking and listening to in early April 1957. Ferlin Husky has the top country song... it became a big crossover hit, too... top 10 in the pop charts... it's a wonderful rockabilly ballad... a sad saga in song called "Gone". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-W3UdDCqKk Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-03-2021 at 09:15 PM. |

Monday, April 15, 1957 DELTA, MYSTIC STILL UNBEATEN IN SUPREME LEAGUE, BAR HARBOR FALLS OUT OF TOP SPOT The Delta Stars and the Mystic Mariners continued their winning ways in the South Island Supreme League, copping their 3rd victories in a row... Bar Harbor could join them in the ranks of the unbeaten... the Kofa Kings took care of them. The Stars socked it to St. Luke's Place 7-2... the Mariners sailed past the St. Pete Pelicans 13-1... the Kings knocked off Bar Harbor 8-5... defending champion Pelham pounded the St. Dominic Saints 9-5... Jackson skimmed past the Zebulon Zips 7-6... and Moon Valley triumphed over the Guedon Gators 5-2. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-06-2021 at 04:10 PM. |

MY LIFE IN 1957
EC's Still Dreaming of Heaven in '57 Yep, EC is still thinking about those gals in his fantasy life... Margie Pollard and Judy Flack... remember them in the 8th grade at Robert E. Lee Elementary?... EC is still hoping Margie will come back to me... yep, I just dreaming... Margie sure would be a little bit of Heaven... but she's in love with a real good looking guy, Jerry Wallace... hate to say it, but Jerry really is a nice guy, too... he's in my phys ed class... I like him... I don't blame Margie for choosing him over me... also dreaming about Rebecca Murphy in my English class and Typing class... wish Becky had the nerve to ask me out. ![]() Enough of the World of High School... let's check in on the Wonderful World of Music... Buddy Knox and "Party Doll" only lasted one week at the #1 spot on the Billboard Pop Charts... an up-and-coming guy took his place... for all you guys and gals, buckaroos and little darlin's, too... here is Elvis Presley, the hottest toddy going in the world of music... here he is singing the top song in the whole wide USA... "All Shook Up". https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...tail&FORM=VIRE Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-07-2021 at 07:27 PM. |

Monday, April 15, 1957 UNBEATEN SUPERMEN REIGN SUPREME IN SECONDARY LEAGUE There is only one team that has escaped unscathed in the South Island Secondary League standings after 3 weekends of action... the Littleville Supermen are flying high and unbeaten so far in the early going with a spotless 3-0 mark... the Meraux Tigers and the Delacroix Cubs suffered losses this past weekend and lost their perfect records. Littleville had a tough time maintaining its unbeaten status... the Supermen came back and defeated the Parkland Perfectos 5-4 in 10 innings... Meraux fell to Grin Hill 4-2... and Delacroix was beaten handily by the Braxton Bruins 9-5... other scores from around the circuit show that Cherrywood easily took care of the Columbia Black Cats 8-3... Anderson nipped the Gull Lake Sailors 6-5... and New Yerby rallied late and whipped Billings 6-5. |

MY LIFE IN 1957
EC's Lookin' for Heaven in '57 OK, let's see what is going on in the USA in '57... I don't want all y'all to be behind times and out-of-date like EC is. Cost of Living: Average Wage: $4550 Average New House: $12,200 Average Monthly Rent: $90 Average New Car: $1900-$3400 Bread: .19 cents a loaf Gas: .24 cents a gallon Postage Stamp: .03 cents Movie Admission Price: .65 cents Major News and some Minor League News, too: 1. Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2... first artificial satellites put in space by Russia... Laika was a dog in Sputnik 2. 2. Asian Flu killed 120,000 worldwide 3. European Common Market came into existence. 4. Toyota began to ship cars to the US... the Crown was the first car. 5. American Bandstand and Dick Clark debuted on ABC -TV 6. Velcro invented by Swiss inventor George de Menstral 7. AA batteries introducted by Eveready for transistor radios 8. Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants announced they were leaving for the West Coast and would be playing in Los Angeles and San Francisco in 1958 season... Dodgers left because the city would not build them a stadium. 9. The Frisbee was introduced by Wham-O... changed the name from the original name Pluto Platter... the original name was chosen to tie in with the UFO frenzy in the country... but never caught on until Wham-O called it the Frisbee. 10. Barry Gordy started Motown Records in Detroit on a $700 loan from his family (he asked for $1000 to start a jazz record company... his family said all they would give him was $700 and they charged him interest, too)... in 1988 Gordy sold Motown to MCA for $61 million. You know I may have missed some of the most important events in life... don't think EC has ever thrown a Frisbee... never been on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tik Tok, either... and EC has never texted. Plus EC has a dumb phone, too. EC is still lost in the 50's. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...78BC&FORM=VIRE Woe is me... maybe I should rend my clothing.
