historical injuries
I was wondering what people around here have done to make injuries more realistic in their historical leagues. I don't necessarily mean just making injuries more or less common in the league setup menu. More along the lines of making a more realistic injury file, and if they had any success with that. Maybe the current injury setup works fine, but I would imagine there were more season and career ending injuries 100 years ago than there are today.
If any of you recommend I turn injuries up or down, I would be interested in your thoughts as well. My league will start in 1901. Thanks- |

Editing players who had shorter careers to "injury prone" is one thing that could help.

I usually set injuries to Low. I find that works very well. You usually get a couple of guys a year that will have career ending injuries and you also get plenty of people being out for shorter periods of time. Setting it higher than that seems to produce way too injuries and most of the better players in the league miss way too much playing time in my opinion.
I also agree about setting certain players to injury prone. I think guys like Mark Fidrych, Mo Vaughn, Ken Griffey, and others should also be edited to Injury Prone for the best results. This doesn't mean they will get hurt for sure but sooner or later things seem to even out. |

I am not really trying to have the SAME guys get hurt as in real life, just that about the same number of guys get hurt, particularly with the major season and career ending injuries.
In my fictional league (only played 4 years) maybe 1 guy per year gets a career ender (injuries set at normal), and that seems a bit low for 100 years ago. But if the majority use low injuries with good results... On a related topic, when OOTP uploads from Lahman (or whatever), does it assign any prone or durable ratings, or is everyone normal? |

So maybe there should be era settings for injuries too?
![]() There were no Tommy John surgeries 30 years ago. And I think death should be added to the injury file. Murders, accidents, heart attacks, overdose.....

![]() Something like having your ace overdosed just before the first game of world series, or your hitting coach murdered with a hooker in car during a road game trip.

Lahmans sets everyone at normal (and all the catchers have C arms, while outfielders get E-A)
I follow this rule: If the guy had a playing streak of at least 745, he is durable (granted this is 10 guys in ML history), prone I rely on memory. Brett, Ron Jones, Fred Lynn are all prone. I tend not to edit pitchers unless they were "known" for always being hurt--Fidrych or Sambito for example. I also make a distinction between guys who were "always" hurt and someone who had one career ending injury. JR Richards was not "prone" but Rick Burleson was.
