AI Historical Draft Logic

I've played Historical pretty much exclusively the last two years.

New teams have always had bad draft logic in their first year, but I'm working my way through a historical sim, where now exiting teams have quite bad draft logic. I can't count the number of times a clear number one pick has been passed over (Lemieux, Bourque and others) and the team picking first overall picks a player that wouldn't normally be picked in the top five.

At first I noticed it with one team in the 20's or 30's and thought they just had bad scouts, but then noticed the pattern repeating over and over again.

Was this planned or a glitch?

We made some adjustments in the draft AI code to fix a couple of problems, but they may not have gone far enough. We'll take another look.

Well I did as suggested and edited draft age for every year necessary starting as suggested above.

In the 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970 drafts, only 20 year olds were available despite changing the age to 18.

Then in 1973 no draft occurred at all.

Finally in 1974 the draft returned and 18 yr olds were available. I'm just finishing that season.

Some years I did change the number of rounds to 4. Don't know if that had an impact.

The round edit may have done it, we're investigating another issue with that right now. We'll have a look and see if it's the same thing.
