GMs and Coaches
I have a few non-urgent suggestions for future versions of FHM:
1) Just as you have dynamic ratings for players based on a number of different factors, it would be great if coaches gained and lost abilities based on results. That way, a franchise could nurture coaches over a few years. It would also be helpful to have a "promote/demote" option to move a coach (or scout) between minor league teams and the parent club. 2) The owner shouldn't be able to block the firing of a coach, but it should cost the GM a ton (15-25 points?) in the Job Security. Perhaps that should be an option: "Are you sure you want to fire Claude Julien? It will cost you 25 points in fan happiness and reduce the owner's patience by XX" 3) The automatic renewal of GM contracts is annoying. The older versions of the game at least had a bit of a negotiation, but it was still lacking because there was (and remains) no easy way to quit and move to a more challenging or lucrative situation without sitting out. Please liven up this element. Have a GM's agent send an email saying "I think Pittsburgh and Vegas seem interested in hiring you if you're available this summer". If I am a top-rated GM, I would like to be able to shop my services in order to maximize my value. Also, I would like the owner for whom I am working to have to make an effort to keep me by offering me more money or term. And if I say no, but I don't break off talks (or the owner doesn't), there's always the possibility of an eleventh-hour deal. |

Adding a couple more:
4) This suggestion is a "GM reputation" one. Just as players have chemistry with other players, GMs should have friends and enemies. Friends are people with whom they can deal and whom they have helped out from time to time (for instance by taking players from the Trading Block). Enemies are guys they've fleeced, tendered a hostile offer sheet, or otherwise pissed off somehow. It would make the trading system far more strategic as GMs could burnish their reputations by making the occasional sweetheart deal to a fellow GM. 5) Finally, two quick points on trading: it should be much harder to trade within division rivals, especially when both teams are in contention; and, on Draft Day, it is still too easy to trade for players who have already been picked. Swapping non-lottery picks in advance should be relatively easy, but once a GM has called a name, it's very rare that they'd be willing to give up that player that same day. That's more an NBA and NFL type thing. |

When there are news items with rumours about Team X firing their GM or coach, I'd like a process where you could express an interest in that post if it becomes available. Team X would then either approach you with an offer, or just appoint someone else. Also there should be an interim period between the incumbent GM/Coach being fired, and the replacement being appointed, with an assistant running the team in the meantime.
There could also be a points deduction to reflect damage to your reputation if you change jobs too frequently. |
