? re June amateur draft in first season of league

What do most leagues do to determine draft order for their amateur draft if their draft is in June in the first season of their league?

Is there a prevailing method that most league use?

If it is a modern day league then most leagues use the teams records the year before you start the sim, in my league we used the record of the real life teams as of this year.

Sorry, forgot to add that, yes its a current league.

Did you follow the MLB method of alternating leagues as well?

Thanks for the input.

He means that the way the MLB does it is this:

If Tampa Bay, Detroit, and San Diego finish the following order:

San Diego 70-92
Detroit 68-94
Tampa Bay 63-99

They would pick in this order:

1. Tampa Bay
2. San Diego
3. Detriot

because MLB consecutive picks cannot come from the same league.

The TLB does not alternate leagues. Order is strictly based on performance of the year before, and when we started, we ordered it by the MLB performance from the year before.

I thought alternating leagues was a decent idea, because it would somewhat mitigate the effect caused by an unbalanced schedule.

That's completely up to you. I dont see any problems with using either method. Just because we dont use it doesnt mean its wrong

Just ensure the owners in the league know the method up front so there are no surprises.

Haha, the initial draft order was one of those little things that we forgot to discuss in setting up the league. So I basically did just spring it on the league. Although, no one has had a problem with the alternating leagues part. But I was told that using end of season 2002 standings for our 2003 draft was just stupid and it wasn't the way done in most leagues did it. I couldn't imagine any other way to start the inital draft order, I'm glad at least two leagues approached their initial draft similarly.

BTW Joe -

I think I found a bug the trades.php file. It was generating bad sql for the trade screen after our draft started. I got it working for me now and posted info what I found on your forum.
