Import player function?
Hi There. FHM 8 is great and having fun as always. I bought the Mac version last year and the import player function never worked for me. This year I bought the steam version for pc and the import player function works but the data base of names is far less than the mac version for some reason. For example names like Jean Beliveau and Bernie Geoffrion , Mike Bossy , Brian Trottier are not there. Yet when I checked on my old mac these names are all there. So the mac version of FHM 8 Has the comprehensive data base but does not function, and the Pc version functions correctly but does not have the comprehensive data base. Any ideas? By the way this import player function is an outstanding idea. I play a lot of historical Junior leagues and being able to import players in their teen years is a dream.

Looks like something's going wrong with the player import, Beliveau and Bossy should definitely be there in all versions, but I'm not seeing them, either. We'll take a look and see what's broken. (Trottier is there, though - he's Bryan, not Brian.)

Looks like the problem is a different set of names files between the historical and modern games - the player's first name is correct, but about 5% of the time they'll get the wrong last name, e.g. Beliveau becomes "Jean Pikalov".
We're trying to find a fix, but there's a quick-and-dirty workaround to find out what the broken names are so you can import (and correct) the player yourself: start a small custom game on July 1 and use the Import Hist Team option (league edit, structure tab) to add a team that contains your desired player (e.g. 1955 Montreal for Beliveau and Geoffrion.) They'll have the same incorrect name there as in the player import, so you can figure out which (wrong) name to import (that's how I figured out Beliveau was Pikalov.) |

Really happy I found this thread...
Same historical database issue here. Pavel Bure is listed as 'Pavel Brittig' and Alexander Mogilny is 'Alexander Krajsova'. (Perhaps they're both undercover to escape the iron curtain rule. lol). Anyway, thanks for the workaround Jeff, it worked beautifully! Cheers for the game and have fun playing. |
