Fire mechanic broken

I like the idea of my job being held over my head. The problem is the fire mechanic is broken. I'm trying to play the 62 expansion Mets and see how long it takes me to make them a winner. The owner for some reason thinks I should make the playoffs within 2 years. This is the common theme the AI has with every start.

In the worst case for the mechanic, I was in my 3rd year the profits were good. The minor leagues went from 20th to 1st in two years. I had lots of injuries derailing my 3rd season where I was in the hopes of at least playing 500 ball. I got fired a month into the season. Didn't even get a chance to bring up some of those great minor league players that were a year or two away.

The last one I was in my 2nd year 1 month into the season playing .400 ball. I was fired.

I have tried around 8 times now to survive not getting fired with no luck. The mechanic is broken and needs to be looked at.

With that said I have turned it off it's a waste of time not sure why it's even in the game with how it works.

If playing with '62 rules there would be no playoffs. You win the pennant or you don't. Be interesting to see the owner's expectation in that world. Of course that doesn't address your complaint as is.

I would guess your in a grey area where the AI makes a decision. We can argue nuance, which I'm not going to do past this post, but the game will never cover all possibilities. Nor will it make these types of decisions to everyone's satisfaction. It will also have instances that don't make sense and could indeed use tweaking. Not to mention in real life I'm sure we can find circumstances where a GM\manger was fired in a more unfair way. The Cardinals just fired their manager IRL that took them to the playoffs. Pretty sure he came out of that meeting thinking wtf? In a situation like yours in OOTP we are left to either turn off a function or find a workaround to get us through. Then, as you've done make a post reporting the problem as you see it. If it were me I think I'd go to the bugs forum to make the case the feature may not be working as intended\needs tweaking.

If I were playing that game and got that owner expectation I think I would disable firing as a way to mimic a guaranteed contract\time to get the team going. Then in my mind leave it off until that time had come. If I thought 4 years was fair I'd leave it off until year 5 and then turn it back on. I don't think I would have waited 8 tries before giving something like this a go.

I would also think it reasonable to go back to my latest backup. Restore, turn off firing, and continue on with my 4 year plan.

The owner's expectation of "make the playoffs" is the same in 1962 and 2021 and he doesn't care that in 1962 a tenth of the teams do and in 2021 a third of the teams do.
