John Flynn
John Flynn played three years in the major leagues. In his rookie year, his 6 home runs were notable given that the league leaders had ten and given that John appeared in only 96 games that year.
Kept the facegen but colored and tweaked it. |

Jesse O Baker
During the off-season, the following assessment of Jesse's blossoming career appeared in the local newspaper on February 13, 1911 as penned by Charles Dryden who wrote, "Steilacoom Jess is 23 years of age, nearly six feet tall, displacement of 168 pounds, bats, eats and throws left-handed, married and the father of one child, stole on base in 1910, can sleep in an upper berth if necessary, played last year with Spokane and batted .187, is sober, industrious, devoted to his family and a credit to any league."
He continued, "Mr. Baker's best fooler is the Fog Ball, developed early in life along the shores of Puget Sound. This masterpiece comes up softly and stealthly, like the fog at early dawn, dissolves before the noonday sun and passes the batsman at a given point somewhere between his nose and belt. The said batsman never sees it at all, any more than the mariner can observe a fog where it is not.; this Fog Ball certainly should bring home the kale to Mr. Baker. Nothing to it." "To keep himself in condition this winter, the ambitious Jesse cleared 16 acres of land one and a half miles from Steilacoom. Until a fellow gets a peek at rough land in these parts he can gain but a dim idea of Mr. Baker's training system. From daylight till dark Jesse pulls up large fir stumps with his left hand, chops trees, rolls logs and does other light exercise. To preserve his control of the Fog Ball he sails clam shells at hell divers in the Sound. That mysterious something the southpaw puts on the ball is imparted to the clam shells and it is said more than one hell diver broke its neck trying to dodge the missiles," reported Dryden. On March 31, 1911 White Sox President Charles Comiskey announced that, "I have wired President J.P. Cohn of Spokane that the deal for Baker is closed and I am sending my check for the balance of the purchase price of $2000 offered last summer for the Spokane boy. Baker looks like the most promising pitcher any minor league club has picked up in years. His work yesterday was simply phenomenal." Spoiler alert, Baker pitched but a single year (1911), went 2-7 with a 3.93 ERA. Redid the facegen. |

I appreciate all the work especially by LansdowneSt on this site and his. To show that I don't just take, I've created an facegen for Steve Fish.
Steve showed promise in 1998-99 at the Class-A level with a 21-15 combined record. I couldn't find much else but I think the injury bug got him based on his stats and a 2 season hiatus in 2001 and 2002. |

Thanks for the kind words, clarkemi1
![]() If Amazin' ever gets the Rangers sim into late 90's I could see Steve being one of those minor league players that gets on a run with the OOTP development engine on. That's a fine A record and a great facegen to match ![]() |

Reggie w/ glasses?
Hey y'all, my first ever post on here, woo-hoo! Just wondering if any of ya had created a Reggie Jackson with glasses facegen before? That'd be super cool! Thanx!
Here's a good straight ahead shot from his days with the A's: https://images.app.goo.gl/ub3hVQRWdxrDFq9V6 Last edited by percolaten; 10-13-2021 at 07:14 PM. |

Reggie Jackson with glasses - but not sunglasses...
Hi percolaten - welcome to the forum and hope you are enjoying the game. The sunglasses are tricky as the facegen eyes are not taken from the source photo but game generated so you end up with a raccoon look (see post 886 of Eddie Bane). I did look for some clear eyeglasses to see if that could work as my default Reggie didn't have glasses. It'd be nice to have a pure sunglasses look without the white eyes there but, alas, that's not how the game uses the fg files. Anyway, here's one with clear glasses showing Reggie as we all remember him... as a Baltimore Oriole...

(Say my name and I appear, lol.)
Dave Malpeso was Boston's first pick in the January, 1981 (secondary) draft, and after two good seasons, he was ranked as the #7 prospect in the whole system heading into 1983. Alas, the higher levels proved difficult, and a season at AA New Britain and two with the PawSox saw his OPS settle in the .700 range and he wasn't hitting for power (22 HR in 3 years), so he got the axe, catcher or not. But in the sim, the Braves need somebody to replace Dale Murphy behind the dish, and the AI's first choice is nearly a fictional (overrated based on a very brief low-level career), so I'm hoping back-up Dave gets more of a chance, rather than just charming the ladies (and gentlemen?) of the South with those baby blues and that neatly-trimmed mustache. It's nice to look good, but nothing looks as good as winning, IMO. (Bobby Cox actually has the Braves hanging around .500, even with Murphy gone to the MetroPlex. Bob Horner is having a great year, and he's ably supported by veteran refugees John Mayberry [glad to be away from the Astrodome] and Hal McRae [glad to be away from Steinbrenner, I guess]. The problem is the pitching. Gary "5-15" Melson was NOT the solution last year, and there are injuries to deal with, too. Cox is hoping this Oil Can Boyd kid they got in the Rick Camp deal can make a difference…) |

Thank you. I'm simming 1998 using the development engine. He's been with the Angels since opening day. Currently he's 3-3 5.33 in 8 starts. His last couple of outings have been rocky giving up 12 ER in his last 11.1 innings but with 36 K's vs 18 walks so far, he's got potential. Too many base hits though, WHIP=1.48. |

Dave Malpeso
Amazin', if Bobby Cox is putting his faith in Oil Can, I have grave concerns. ;P In the meantime, here's Dave Malpeso ready to take on Gary Allenson and force Bob Montgomery into retirement. Not sure where Fisk is in the sim, but when this Gedman fella comes along, well, tell Dave these three words in preparation: "Rent, don't buy."

1972 A's coaches cap
Was watching some of the '72 series, and I noticed the A's coaches were all wearing different caps than the A's players, white caps. So I decided to try my hand at creating one -

Ah, the white A's caps. Here the link to the uniform postings. Different mod thread than the faces/photos one.

Where is Carlton Fisk in my sim, you might ask? Right where he should be, at the Fens. Albeit now dropped to 8th in Don Zimmer's lineup, due to his slow start. (.227 BA as we head to Memorial Day.) Backed up by Alan Knicely, who is Knicely showing why he was available on waivers in the first place. (.200).
No Bostonian need worry about Rich Gedman, who's enjoying life in Baltimore. (Remember, he went wtih Ojeda and Barry Butera in the trade for Scott MacGregor; I can't complain about the MacGregor trade or even letting him walk to the Rangers, since Scott's $$ went to sign Larry Gura, who's been great. But that 1+player option deal for Gura worries me…if he walks at year's end, all that effort would be wasted.) And Dave Malpeso doesn't need to think about Boston at all, of course. As mentioned, he's in Atlanta, waiting for his chance behind the nearly-fictional Stephen DeMatteis (highly rated off of a good weekend in the Beer League, or some nonsense). As it is, DeMatteis just wrecked the Mets' attempt to escape the cellar, hitting two home runs in Atlanta's victory. Which means the Metsies wasted the first ML dinger from Bob Bathe, brother of Bill: IRL, Bob was drafted by Oakland (as seen), but was obtained by the Mets in mid-'84 and put up a strong 1.5 seasons at Tidewater. But the Orange and Blue decided they were good with Howard Johnson, moving forward, and washed Bathe right out of their hair. In the sim, NYN drafted Bathe themselves, and he's getting a shot since Hubie Brooks is hitting about 100 points below the .280 threshold he'd established the past two seasons. So Hubie's just caddying for Mookie in the outfield, right now, and the Mets are dipping a toe into the Bathe-waters. |

Bob Bathe
Here's my Bob Bathe. Let the Mets know that Gary Carter should hit free agency soon. Did that Keith Hernandez fella ever leave St. Louis? Tell me Ray Knight is still a Red and that Mookie was felled by a terrible leg injury... though if Bathe is on the hot corner maybe I need not worry about the Mets should the Sox carve a path to the pennant...

Ray Knight is gone from the Reds, but not to NY. Pushed out by the young infielders (Gary Redus, Eric Davis, Danny Tartabull), he signed a minor-league deal with the ChiSox, and is now fighting their teen sensation, Devon White, for the Southside 3B job.
(How did the Mariners get Tartabull, anyway? All I can find is "compensation", but the Reds didn't sign any FAs from them. Huh.) The Mets will have to wait 2+ years for Carter to hit the market. So they'll just have to make do with recent #2 draft pick Charlie O'Brien (and Lloyd McClendon in reserve) for now. And yes, I lured Mex to TEX, last year. Natural grass and no transcontinental plane flights…what's not to love? Well, the Mets are hard to love, I admit: Yes, that Pat Zachry-for-Mark-Brouhard deal is looking good, Pat's success in Milwaukee aside. That Strawberry kid will have time to ripen, it appears. And yes, Craig Swan-for-Dave-LaPoint will probably work out, over time, as LaPoint is younger and a lefty. …but damn, does the cupboard look bare behind Leary. Who's still on the shelf with elbow inflammation, for another 3 weeks. Yes, better than Don Sutton being out for the season with bone chips in his elbow, but the Dodgers have arms for days. The Mets…not so much. And even when the Mets get a lead…well, their latest game at Cincy, they came back from down 0-4 and took the lead with two in the top of the 11th. But they'd already used Reardon and Allen, so Ed Lynch had to close…and, well… Pat Putnam walks Redus singles up the middle. Dario Guzman runs for Putnam (seemingly pointless, but John McNamara wants to bunt the tying runs into scoring position, and can't have a force-out at 3B) Pinch-hitter Ron Oester successfully bunts them over. Mickey Rivers lines out to CF, scoring Guzman, but it's 2 out, now. BUT… Butch Wynegar walks Tartabull beats out an infield hit (3B hole) Cressy Pratt walks, forcing in the tying run and Dave Concepcion hits and sends an inning-ending grounder to Mike Howard at SS…who boots it, allowing Wynegar to score the winner. Your 1982 Mets, everybody! (Maybe the Mets need to try Howard in the OF? His range and arm wouldn't be as impressive…but he wouldn't have to field grounders, out there.) Wait…Dario Guzman? Cressy Pratt? Huh? Well, the Reds have OF injuries (George Foster and Reggie Smith are both due back soon, but for now, there's a need) and so have called in the reserves. Of course, I can't actually find a pic of either of them, so…here's Tim Roche, who's also on the Reds' bench atm, but is 28 to Pratt's 24 and Guzman's 20, and thus the likeliest to get sent down when Smith and Foster heal, shortly. (Not my fault he didn't make it into the game, lol.) Last edited by Amazin69; 10-17-2021 at 02:31 PM. |

Lastly, here's Crestwell Pratt, known to his friends as "Cressy". Had to smooth this one a lot due to the angle on the face.

Ward Miller
His baseball career spanned the minor leagues, the National and American Leagues, and even the renegade Federal League, all in an age often referred to as the Deadball Era. Ward Miller, a left-handed-hitting, right-handed-throwing outfielder from Illinois, was never the best player on his team, but he was sufficiently skilled to cobble together an eight-year career in three major leagues and seven more in the minors, all while playing with and against some of the legends of the game. From the outset, in his rookie campaign with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in 1909, he shared the field with Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke, and played with the eventual World Series champion team (Pirates). He played professionally until 1920, and then walked away from the game. Ultimately, he became a sheriff and civil servant in his hometown of Dixon, Illinois, and lived out a quiet, productive life. He never won a championship or a batting crown, but his career is most certainly one more colorful tile in the great mosaic that is baseball, and American, history. - SABR
