Roster Setups - Tournaments

So, is there a good guide somewhere for how to go about this?

I'm having issues with bronze, silver, and capped tourneys on getting the AI to at least set me up a team.

Nothing between importing PT Rosters, activating elligble/inelligble results in a legal team. It just auto adds 20 pitchers, maybe 4 to 5 batters.

Being fairly busy, it's hard to take the time for each different kind of tourney to manually do this, but if there's some tips and tricks out there, I'd love some help.

Thanks!

If you want to make a decent team, you have to spend at least 30 minutes, but you only have to do it once.

For example, to build an iron team, enter the Saturday Iron Warriors.
The key here is to enter a tournament of the type you would like to play, but has NO chance of starting while you are building your roster.

Then, go to the Manage Roster screen. You can customize the view by batting or pitching ratings. (You make have to construct your own views, i don't know if batting or pitching ratings are provided by default).

Filter your cards by position and activate the best ones you have.

Once you have 26 players selected, save your roster to file.

Then, withdraw from Saturday Iron Warriors (unless you want to play that one, but you might have to wait until Saturday) and enter iron Bo5 quick tournaments and import your roster from the file you saved.

Then you can have the AI set up your depth charts and lineups.

So not just me then, it's just a manual chore if you want it to work right. Thank you!

I did discover the weekly tourneys today. Never knew those existed. I just kept getting discouraged with the roster manipulation tools on tourney sign ups.

The real chore is constantly having to re-enter. There is no auto-re-enter button! I've done very well packs-wise even though I'm eliminated ~80% of the time. But, elimination streaks of 20-30 are not uncommon.

If you have access to Excel, you can export the card database and open it in Excel.
Video link on how to do it posted in this thread

In Excel, you have time to filter to whichever level of cards you want, then by position, and you can also use filter ranges to get the ratings you want to see.

For me, I copy the players I find over to a new tab in the workbook and paste them in to build a 26 man roster and make sure all my bases are covered. . Then I can use the tourney management screens in game to quickly get those people on the team.

After you create your roster the 1st time:
1. Go to Roster Management,
2. then select Roster Import/Export
3. then select Export Roster file and give it a name.

I always name mine with the level of tournament Silver, Gold, Low Diamond and the date I save it so I can identify the most recent file.

The next time you play in a tournament at the same level you can just import the same roster.
Same as above except in #3 select Import Roster From File.

Thanks. This is something I may take the time to do in next year's version, including finding specific players.

So what I did yesterday, was deactivate every card in my primary PT roster, except my current lineup, then went back and added iron, bronze, silver, and a few others. Now I can just import my PT Roster, hit AI and it mostly works.

This morning though, it set the lineup for a iron tourney with 16 pitchers again...

It's also not evaluating the cap correctly, unless I'm not understanding something? Isn't it each card at X value? Not a fraction? I'm at 1055 on 21 players when I add up the roster, but it's showing 1235. When I add another 59 iron card, it raises it to 1255....what am I missing?

Nevermind, saw where it says that empty roster spots are still treated as 40.

After each live update I spend about the next week carefully tracking my Bronze tournaments and downloading all of the league stats in order to optimize my roster. I can typically zero in on a team which averages 20-25 packs per day. That’s what has fed my main team all season.

Not sure what you are missing doing it that way, but if you saved the roster as I suggested, you can just import it again and you are done.

Wouldn't work. It would just result in the same tourneys being monopolized by the same people, particularly the 32 player jobs. Either that, or just set up such a long waiting list to auto-get into the next one available you would end up actually playing in fewer than doing it manually, where at least you can select another flavor of tourney if you wish.

An auto-re-enter button would work for quick tournaments, only. These can't be monopolized. I also add that it would be good only for 24 hours, otherwise you'd have abandoned teams playing forever. So, enter once a day for 24 hours worth of quick tournaments seems like a great way to reduce the grind.

Good advice all around, I'll just second what they've said. I'd love to have some way to build these rosters/lineups/strategy outside the tourney start time limitations. Sometimes it takes me multiple iterations to get it how I want (i.e., get all the players on the roster, then export; then next one import and adjust again, etc). And my regular teams are all aggressively non-Live, but I need to mark the Live guys I use in tourneys - need a wildcard flag or two on my cards so I can sort things more easily.

The best way, IMHO, would be the ability to build custom sheets into the Manage Cards screen which is, of course, effectively only a spreadsheet anyway. That way you would be free to set up not just tourney rosters, but any card sets; theme teams, cards retained for later sale, and so on. Ideally, it would include the entire card set and not just those you own, to identify potential acquisitions and so on. It just seems so clumsy to need to import a spreadsheet into another spreadsheet outside the game in order to manipulate data you should have access to within it.

I concur. I'm just using the manage roster section to set an active roster. I don't need 200 players much less 40 on my team for the league play. So I added about 40 iron/40 bronze cards to active roster just to import the PT roster on each tourney.

Now if it would just limit the AI to selecting more than 13 pitchers, I could auto set lineups just fine. I don't expect to win as much or as often as those who whittle it down to the best bronze or iron players of the week, but for me this means I can have a chip and a chair in a few tourneys without much effort.

Thanks for all the help on this, btw. And Cubsfan, I can now save/export as you mentioned once I join a bunch of these tourneys. I just hadn't done it exactly like you said yet.
