How do you manage the scouting messages?

How does everyone else manage the scouting reports leading up to the draft? Any tricks I'm missing so I can filter them out? I'm starting to think maybe I don't need to run scouting for the draft. Just yolo it with the OSA and avoid having my inbox become useless.

Doesn't sound like my method is something that you would like but I'll share it for any the read the thread.

First I sort the draft thread with filters for "draftable pitchers and batters". I place them on a shortlist and mass add them to the scout's jobs. As the reports come to my email they will be in a list all together. I start with the first report and quickly skim to name and rating, IE Joe Baseball 45-80. Click on delete, that email goes away and is replaced by the next. Read, delete. Rinse and repeat until the whole list had been glanced at and deleted. Every day reports come in they are read and dispensed with. I do play out all of my games so it's not like I have to work around weekly sims etc.

With this method names and ratings stick in my mind so when the draft comes I have some familiarity as I select.

If you want OSA only be my guest. The trouble with not doing your own scouting is you can't fine tune and go after the skills you value most. My 2 cents.

Is it possible to have a different inbox for just the Scout?

A subtab would be ideal.

Interesting. I do the same thing about putting them in a shortlist and just bulk scouting. The big difference between us is there's no way in hell I'm deleting 200 scouting reports 1 by 1

Well, when you play out all games and go day by day it's not quite that bad. Big days may have 20 reports.

I move the draft to the first week of spring training. I like it there, feels more natural. But even if I advanced my offseason one day at a time, 200 mails is still 200 mails.

I use pre draft scouting to have up-to-date ratings and pontentials, as accurate as my scout is capable. So when I'm perusing my options on my turn in the draft I know that the ratings on my shortlisted fellas is a little more trustworthy. I don't need to individually delete 200 mails for that.

Part of the problem is that scouting reports all have different subject lines. You can't just scan the wall of mails and quickly see what in there isn't a scouting report. So I choose "delete all" and if I miss some other non-scouting message I'd have liked to see, then... so be it, sacrifices must be made.

I've come to the conclusion after playing this since Season Ticket Baseball days, is that reading the scouting reports is pointless. All that matters is getting the top guys to VERY HIGH on scouting accuracy. Now you have as much accuracy as possilble.

Then I sort based on the skills I'm looking for.

If you don't have a kid on VH, you are simply guessing.

Exactly my thoughts and my aim when scouting for the draft. Spot on. Just trying to get that "very high" on the players I like. No need for flooding the inbox and drowning out, say, a key negotiation message or something else that might actually be interesting or useful.

I also moved my draft into ST. But then I noticed none of my picks were playing. Because half-season leagues had not started.

I have all my minors set to start in mid April or early May. So everyone gets drafted and plays 1 month and a half or 2 later.

All of my scouting report emails come in one block. If there are other subjects they are either before or after, never intermixed.

I start with the top of the stack and only look at the right window with the actual email. There is not one simple email type but it's quite easy to get used to scanning the email for only the name and rating. Been awhile since the draft in my league but IIRC they are underlined, in any case not hard to see. I need to suggest these be colored (make it easier to scan) for future versions or simplify the email so all are the same format.

I do make a secondary "draft board" shortlist where I move players as the become "very high". It would be easy to not scan the emails and just sort during the draft. However, too me, there is another level of reality when I recognize some of the names as they come up. My interest is not how easy or fast I can get through seasons. Immersion is the goal. I want to enjoy and feel like my league is well, real

As noted in my first reply my way would not work for you. But you asked, so I answered.

I did ask and I'm glad to have seen your point of view.
