Question Display issues with new PC

I just got a new PC and I'm having display issues with OOTP. I've run several other games (text-based and regular) and they've all worked fine.

My problem is that on the initial "select" screen, all the options are blank. I can click the upper left one to continue my league and everything else seems okay...except for the fact that there are all these horizontal fuzzy red&green bars on the top of the screen. There are 6-10 of them in various portions on the upper half of the screen.

Guess I'll give some info...

All drivers are updated
Running XP (totally updated)
DirectX 9.0b installed
512 MB DDR RAM
1.833 GHz Athlon XP
128 MB Radeon video card

I turned off all the display options in the OOTP menu and this persists. I don't think it's any of my PC parts, as everything seems to be working just fine.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Did you d/l the game onto your new PC or transfer it from a CD?

Just ran the game configuration and turned off direct 3D and that fixed the problem (even though it made some of the backgrounds black and such, but that's expected with 3D being disabled).

I DL'ed OOTP 5 from OOTP's website.

Apparently this is a problem with my DirectX or something along those lines. I don't wanna take up too much time, but any suggestions on what I should do? All the drivers and stuff are updated, but I'm still having other funky stuff going on (which I won't go into here).

I updated Win 98 to Win XP...wonder if that has anything to do with my non-OOTP problems&my display issues? I didn't install OOTP til I got XP running, btw.

Thanks again in advance for any tips

Was this a fresh Windows 98 and XP install or a previously installed?

It was a fresh install...I formatted my HD then installed 98...and a day later updated it to XP.

Don't worry if you don't have time to respond to this eh. I think the problem may be my HD...which makes me sad. I'll have my buddies look at it and I'll report their findings.

I don't know why these problems would be related to that display error (but I won't be OOTP'ing as long as my PC does random restarts/shutdowns though...)
