Exclamation Please help, crazy problem

Im not having this problem, but a guy in my league is. I thought id post this here, someone has to know whats up. Im stumped.

Quote:
Guys, I have been having this problems for a season and a half. Bill mentioned someone else had the same problem and I forgot who it was. I have contacted both OOTP and ViaTech and neither has helped me.

Anyway here is the deal:

After installing the league zip file, my license is lost every time I start the program. I need to re-enter my order ID and re-license the product every time I install the zip file. The above doesn't occur if I no zip file is involved.

Anyone have any ideas? I am desperate here.
So basically, every time he unzips the latest league file, he loses his license ID. wtf?

Does this happne w/ other leagues he has? Does he have "LicCtrl" running, as this is the elicense startup file and needs to be running.

Hey Steve, thanks for the reply.

hes not in any other leagues, so hes not sure.

hes using XP, so there is no LicCtrl startup file, its a service. With that, its a little more cut and dry, if the LicCtrl service is disabled it wont launch period, if its set to manual or automatic, it'll launch like normal.

Heres more of a description of whats going on from my friend..

Quote:
Here is a breakdown of what happens. I unzip the league file. Start the game and it acts like I just downloaded the program and gives me the purchase option. I enter my order ID and License the game. It starts fine. I do my stuff, shut it down. Then I can start and close the program as often as i would like without any problems. However once I unzip the league file I am back to a new purchase screen.
Thats pretty crazy. The league file should have zero to do with it, correct? I mean, there is nothing at all the league file could be overwriting. The game could care less what league file is present or if a league file is there at all for that matter.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

I am the guy who is having the problem. I did some hunting around today and found out the below:

Thanks for the help I will try posting there as well.

I discovered today while trying to tes this more that if I restart my PC (which I don't do often) my license information disappears. So basically this is what I can tell:

1. Installing the league zip file does not seem to be the problem. I restarted my PC, lost my license. Re-Licensed the game and installed the zip file without a problem.

2. Restarting my PC seems to cause the License information to disappear.

3. I never shut down my PC, but something must be happening during the day so that it thinks it is being shut down and the license is going bye - bye.

So I think I understand the cause, but I am no closer to the solution.

I had a similar problem with ViaTech's eLicense software. Fortunately, the guys at ViaTech were able to work with me and get it sorted out.

What happened was, every time I would restart my computer (P4 2GHz, WinXP Home) I would lose my licenses for ViaTech licensed software. Eventually, we narrowed the problem down to the XP Powertoys utilities from Microsoft. Specifically, if the Autologon feature is enabled through the TweakUI utility, it seems to cause a problem with the ViaTech licenses.

Like I said, I was able to work with ViaTech, and they made sure I didn't lose any licenses.

So, if you're running XP Home with the Autologon feature enabled through TweakUI and you're having this problem ... turn it off.

Also, if anyone is running the Autologon feature and not having problems, please let me know and post it here, too. I'd like to know if my diagnosis of the problem was wrong.

I have sent 4 e-mails to Via tech and not one of them has been answered.

To my knowledge I am not running Tweak UI, I assume you need to downoad that. I certainly don't have any aut login enabled.

Guess I need to send them another e-mail, I sure won't be buying any other ViaTech Licensed games if this is their MO.

Dan,

I'm rather surprised that they have not responded, I have had to contact them a number of times for various reasons without a hitch.

You might try giving them a call, number is in the link.

I finally heard back from the today. They said they attached a patch to the e-mail I was reading, unfortunately there was no file attached to it.

So I guess I wait until Monday to get some help. <sigh>

I don't know if you're still reading this thread, but is there any way you can send me this patch via e-mail or something.

Via Tech sent me an e-mail stating there was a patch attached. There wasn't and since that time I have sent them 5 e-mails and called them twice, they have no returned one of these e-mails or calls. To say I am very disappointed would be an understatement.

Anyway I could use that patch file, and for the life of me i can;t figure out why it isn't available for download on their site.

So I'll try it tonight when I get home from work.
