Two ML Teams and Three Levels of Minors Disappeared after new sim

This is not the first time that this has happened, but two teams (Las Vegas Knights, Pacific Division and Montreal Exports, North Division) just completely disappeared along with three levels of all minors and all of those LV/MTL minor league teams. This happened before in the same manner, when we simmed to opening day. There is a file in the ootp saved games shared folder under the name "SKY Baseball.lg" Again, this is the second time this has happened, and it was the same exact issue. We had to find a league member who hadn't downloaded the new file, have them send it to the commish and then re-sim completely. I do not understand why this happens.

This can happen if the file is corrupted.

There are a few things that can cause corruption. This potentially includes unexpected system shutdowns or crashes especially while a league is saving, bad sectors on the hard drive the game is saved to, memory glitches on your computer (especially possible if the league is left open for very long periods of time without the game being shut down or restarted) or occasionally interference from other programs.

Some of what you might do to prevent that from coming up again would be to regularly defrag your hard drive as well as check it for errors, make sure to occasionally shut your computer off or at least restart it and also run as few other programs in the background at the same time as OOTP as possible.

For programs that need to be running at the same time, like an anti-virus or firewall, it's a good idea to add OOTP to their whitelist and exclude OOTP and its data folders from any disk cleaners or similar programs. This is a pretty important step, as it's probably where 95% of the issues with league corruption come from. Basically, any programs that can change or delete files on their own, without asking you about it, you'll want to have them steer clear of any OOTP files and folders.

In the case of an online league, you also add in some other possible sources of corruption when the commish is uploading the league or when the league members are downloading the league.

If the connection is lost even briefly during the process, it's possible that can cause corruption. It's probably generally best to use a dedicated ftp program like FileZilla or something similar to upload and download the league file, as that should prevent corruption even if there's a connection blip.

I can understand that response if it happened during any random sim, but it's happened twice now when going to Opening Day. I don't think that's a coincidence.

It’s now happened in each of the following two seasons. This isn’t a firewall issue, and it isn’t a corrupt file issue. It happens on opening day consistently, and we have no clue how to fix it.

A lot easier to blame it on a corrupt file than actually figuring out the bug...debugging the game doesn't sell PT packs.

I do think it is a corrupt file issue even so, but if you can upload/post a download link to the league file, we can test it out to see if we can recreate this.

Never mind, my bad. I see you'd already uploaded a save in your original post.

We'll take a look at that one to start with and let you know if we need a more recent version, if we can't recreate the issue.

Both our commissioners have no issues on their file. Only when the games zips and FTPs to the server does the issue arise. So it's either an issue with zipping or extraction. We are trying manual zips and manual FTP to see if this helps.

Our league file is here - https://statsplus.net/skylinebasebal...nebaseball.zip

Thanks for the additional info.

I do suspect in that case the issue is the file is getting corrupted during that process somehow, likely either during the upload itself or once on the server itself.

I would be somewhat surprised if the zip or extraction process was the culprit (especially since if that was the case, we'd likely have a slew of complaints about this from dozens of leagues), but of course I can't completely rule that out either. That's just my educated guess, which could be wrong.

So I will be interested to hear what results you get with the manual zip/extraction.

I fear we're not likely to find much on our end when we try to recreate things given the above, but we'll still take a look and see if we can recreate this by ftp'ing the league file ourselves. If it is indeed a zip or extraction problem, we should be able to recreate it, if not we probably won't be able to. We'll see!

Makes sense. Though once the file is zipped none of the files inside the zip should be able to be altered by the server. Not my area of expertise though so I can't say for sure.

It's interesting that it's only teams that have been moved/created/expansion teams that are affected. Possibly the teams.dat file is the issue are the players themselves are still there. There are just no teams/leagues to put them on.

Manual zip/extraction and FTP gave the same result. Also, it's incredibly unlikely that 2 different PC's have the same hardware issues or even network issues. One is in California, one is in Toronto. I believe both are using Windows but I don't know what build etc.

Seems at this point it's either a zipping/extraction issues or a server issue but, again, I've never seen a server alter a .dat file inside a zip before....

If the manual zipping/extraction gives the same results, then I have a really hard time seeing where the game could be causing this (But you never know. We'll still try to test this out to see what happens for us, but that probably won't be today).

What you mention about the zip makes sense though, as if that's getting damaged, you'd think it would result in an unreadable zip file, not damage to the files in the zip. So it's a bit of a mystery.

Can you have one of the commish's upload the files before they are zipped (when they still look good) directly to our server (as per the instructions in my signature), so we can see what shape they end up in there?

Then also post a link to the damaged file from after you upload (which may just be the https://statsplus.net/skylinebasebal...nebaseball.zip file, I haven't checked that yet), so we can try comparing the two files.
