TXT Files
When creating a txt file to mass import players, I notice the REF ID for Negro-league players have the number 99 at the end. If I use this ID will the players be imported and recognized in my fantasy league?
Josh Gibson has two ID numbers on the Baseball Reference web site; gibson002jos and gibsojo99. What is the difference? Last edited by CD Longball; 08-25-2021 at 09:08 AM. |

Some will, some won't is the lame version. And some of those that do will do so as shadows of their IRL selves, while others will be beasts. If you want accurate imports of NeL players at the moment, a lot of them need manual tinkering, and the amount you do will be reflected in the accuracy of the created players to their historical versions. As I've said elsewhere, I really hope some work is done on this area of the game for 23 and beyond. If you hunt around on these boards (start in the historical board, also check out the discussion toward the end of THIS thread) you will find more concrete responses to your question and needs in this regard. There's also an NeL QuickStart over on the mods page but I cannot vouch for its provenance, having never used it. If you are willing to go under the hood and edit the players yourself, I thoroughly recommend this absolute beaut of an article as a reference point. Hope I've been of some help. G

Thanks for the reply. Your info was helpful. It seems like players will be brought into the game, but their stats and player profiles will need modified to more accurately represent their abilities. My other question was which ID do I use if the player has two to choose from? see Josh Gibson example in initial post.

Here's what was used for OOTP21 - I think it was Spritze that posed a copy of the file for me as I wanted to import several players from the NeL for a quickstart I was working on. The recent discussion on the other thread and now seeing this one led me to dig into my files to find it.
Use these codes and make sure you toggle on "Include players in the minor league database" when importing as OOTP has not begun using the bRef Major League IDs... because bRef only just created them this year with the MLB decision to acknowledge the NeLs as Major Leagues. |
