Depth chart lineup control
TLDR: Im looking for an explanation of how the program makes lineup changes with depth chart substitutions and/or advice on if/how I can control it better. I'm pretty sure this is part of general game mechanics, not specific to PT, but I micromanage my single player games so I never really have to deal with it until PT.
Long version: See pic for reference. Game was against lefty Madison Bumgarner When the program makes depth chart substitutions, does it rewrite the lineup as it see's fit? I've seen box scores with my lineup mixed up many times but something in one of today's tournaments jumped out it me just because of how bad the hitter was that was slotted at the top of my lineup. 1) subs out 2b with backup who normally starts at 3rd. 2) subs in backup 3rd. 3) subs out DH with backup who normally starts at 1b. 4) subs in backup 1b. 5) subs in backup catcher 6) subs in back up CF I'm cool with all these moves and they processed exactly as desired but the batting lineup itself went sideways. The players that left the lineup bat 1, 2, 7, 8 but the new players that entered the lineup have been placed at 1, 7, 8, 9 What happened to cause a shift between 2 and 9? Somewhere in the mix the program decided that my shortstop Andrelton Simmons who was not part of any substitutions and is the 3rd worst bat on my team should move from his normal 9 hole to the 2 hole. THE TWO HOLE!?!?! I have trouble imagining how bad of a bronze team roster I would have to assemble to get a "coach" recommended lineup of Simmons batting 2nd yet somehow the program decided that swap did indeed need to be made. Compared to others on the team he's not high contact, he's not the best bunter, he's not a lefty...I mean the list goes on and on why Simmons should basically never even sniff at the top half of the lineup on this team yet there he was. This isn't a complaint; I'm just trying to understand the system better in hopes of getting it to make better moves in the future. Tournaments have their own timeline so I can't always micromanage between games like single player so any explanations/advice on how/ why this happened and if/how I can prevent one of my worst bats being put into the top half of the order would be appreciated. p.s. I was also amused that Charlie Hustle would be tired enough to need a sub after a whopping 7 games at DH. I guess maybe I would be tired as well afer 3500 games. There is a place in player strategies where you can force a batter to a certain spot in the batting order. So, if you want Simmons to always bat 9th then make sure to inform the AI.

FWIW, the force lineup spot setting is not 100% perfect either. There's some additional AI logic that will still oddly shuffle people around after the forced spots are filled. In my experience it seems to work best when I only use the force lineup option for the 2-3 players that need it the most (where substitutions will yield a much different bat or for players who really need to be at the top or bottom of the lineup). But it's a godsend if you're shuffling 100 Pete Rose around in DH/1B/LF/RF. I also use the force position option on multi-position players, but even still the AI will shift players into bad defensive positions to accomidate a switch hitter.
