Walk your way to championships
I’m trying a strategy I saw on a nearly dormant Reddit which recommended taking every pitch until two strikes and never stealing; and pitching to contact on all three-ball counts.
This strategy piles up runs and brutalizes opposing pitching staffs while also reducing walks you give up, according to the original author, who said he improved results for the 2016 A’s and got to 120 wins after some player upgrades the following season. I’m about 15 games into trying it with the 1949 Red Sox, and it’s a rampage so far, 12-3 record, drawing 10 walks per game, opponents throwing 100+ pitches per game more than my team.
Grinding this way is a matter of taste, but it looks like it works well.
