Minor league coaches not taking promotions
Absolutely zero of my minor league hitting and pitching coaches at any level will take a promotion to the major leagues at their respective position. Hell they won't even take a promotion to the next level up. They will take promotions for every spot except their current position. (Manager, Base Coach, hell even Scout Director but not a single pitching or hitting coach wants to just move up to the next level to be a pitching or hitting coach).
Has anyone experienced this? Last edited by TheGobOne; 07-29-2021 at 01:04 PM. |

One small item to keep in mind- if you are playing as GM only, pull up your Manager under the Personnel screen (i.e., left click on him). Once his screen is up, check the upper right area, note the "street lights" (as I call it) with Green, Yellow and Red buttons.
It may be that your Manager won't let you fill certain Coach positions. For instance, when playing as GM of the '21 Angels, Maddon won't let you choose his Bench or Pitching coaches. As far as the minors, I agree this seems a bug as I never used to have any issues promoting coaches before.

If this is a bug it hasn't been fixed yet. Nobodies with zero reputation who are pitching coaches in short season A won't even accept a major league role. This makes it impossible to keep coaches around as they gain rep and pointless to try and develop them.
I wish I could just keep managers and turn the rest of the coaches off. This area of the game has been screwed up in some way or another for 7 years now and I'm sick of messing around with it. |

Just had this today. Fired my manager mid-season and was looking to promote my AA manager into the ML job. He had no interest in it. Kind of unrealistic.

I'll also add that there are coaches and managers in my game who are of top quality and haven't been employed for years. They don't want any job I offer them and presumably won't take any AI jobs either.
Someone who is long term unemployed should either lower the standards of the position they are looking for or retire. I'm piggybacking that here because I suspect both problems are tied to reputation, and I'll put forth the idea that coach/manager reputation is causing far more trouble than benefits and should be removed. Excellent staff will get excellent with experience and success, and because their skills are excellent they will wind up with the top jobs and the highest salaries, or should if the game is working properly in this respect. We don't need something like reputation. |
