Hey Omniart, could you do sets for Kansas City Cowboys, Blues, Prairie Dogs, and Sunflowers?

Short Answer: No, I can't do all that, but I might be able to help you with one set.

Long Answer:

I'm a slow worker, and each of the sets you see here took me at least two hours to put together. I like to fiddle, and many of them took two or three times as long. The Washington Capitols set I recently completed was done while watching old Doctor Who serials in the background. It took me two seven-episode serials, so almost five hours. Requesting four sets is a big ask, and I have plans for the weekend!

Now I saw the thread you started, where you explain that you're looking for a set for a National League Kansas City franchise. If I understand correctly, in the end you will only need one uniform set. It sounds like you are requesting designers to make several sets, and then you'll pick the one you like best. The problem with this (again, if I am understanding your request correctly) is that you're putting all the work on the designers without doing any initial legwork of your own. I expect that this is why you haven't had a positive response in your thread.

There are a few things that you could do that would help me and any other designer with fulfilling your request.

First, search existing uniform sets on the "OOTP Mods - Logos, Graphics, and HTML" thread. If you go to that thread, in the top right is "Search this Forum." I recommend selecting "Show Posts" before typing in the search terms. I know that there are several Kansas City Blues and Cowboys sets out there. There are a few generic Prairie Dogs sets as well. Perhaps one of these is what you're looking for. There is a huge number of uniforms on these forums already, and it makes no sense to duplicate work.

(On a side note, I did a search for "Sunflowers" and came up with ... nothing! That's quite a feat. Personally, of the nicknames you mention, that's the one that interests me the most, because it hasn't been done yet.)

If you can't find an exact set that you like, you might find a set that would work with minimal alterations. For example, earlier in this thread, I did a set for the Kansas City Caseys. Perhaps you like the look of that one, but you would prefer it were the Kansas City Cowboys. It would be a rather simple task for me to change the lettering from Caseys to Cowboys. That would be a much, much easier request to fulfill, and I'd be happy to help with that. The same thing would apply to changing colors or any other alteration of an existing uniform.

If after all this you can't find anything that looks like it would work and still would like an original set, then request the set that you'd like: Blues, Cowboys, Prairie Dogs, or Sunflowers. And it would help a lot to have at least a general idea of what you were looking for. Some of my sets look rather traditional; others have a 70s or 80s vibe. If you have certain colors or details in mind, that's great, but not necessary, but I do need a general sense of the style you're looking for.

Okay. I hope that I've made sense here. If I can, I'd like to help you get the uniform set that you'd like. Get back to me, and let's see if we can figure this out together.

This particular team I like a rather good deal here, although I have perhaps a minor suggestion related to the shown cap for it. Maybe the text and the trim for it should be reversed, or the trim eliminated, so that it is much easier for people to tell just where the P ends and the background of the cap begins. To me, at least, it currently looks like the trim around the P is blending into the background of the cap quite closely, and isn't so distinct here. Just a suggestion here, that's all.

By the way, I like quite a lot of the other work you've done in this thread so far. But I unfortunately haven't yet found enough time and all to download work for a number of the teams seen here as well, for various reasons here, in truth. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the time soon, however. Keep up the great work, omniart. And one day, you might just be up there with people around here like txranger and knuckler, among others, I'm quite sure. CD out.

Kansas City Sunflowers

I liked the Sunflowers idea and felt like giving it a try. The sunflower logo is original; the cap and jerseys are adaptations of my Kansas City Caseys set. I wanted to make the sunflower logo to be a part of the cap or jersey, but it just didn't work. On the cap, it ends up looking like a bull's-eye; on the jersey it just seemed forced.

Sometimes I leave the trim on; sometimes I take it off. It doesn't make too much of a difference in the end appearance.

Atlanta Grits

Realized when I was finished that I probably chose orange because I was subconsciously thinking of Gritty. I was thinking of a pat of butter when I chose the shade of yellow.

It took me some time to find a font and design that I liked. Most of the combinations using blue and red looked rather generic. I'm chuffed with the result.

Interesting response, Omni, I feel like I would need to be more specific there. I'll hit you up once I have a better idea of what I'm envisioning.

Tampa Gasparillas

Tampa holds a Gasparilla Pirate Festival, named for a legendary pirate José Gaspar. The best part about it is that Gaspar, also called Gasparilla, is a fictional creation who gets celebrated as if he had been real.

The jersey is inspired the 1935 Pittsburgh Crawfords road jersey, and the cap by a Google Image search for the accompanying ballcap. I had to design the ballcap pinstripes, which is something that I have been meaning to do but have been putting off.

Houston Sams

My goal with the home jersey was to get the star in the center on a dark headspoon, but when I just used a dark color for the headspoon, the result looked silly, in my opinion. So I expanded the dark color to the raglan sleeves and spent hours trying to get the piping right. I mostly like the result, but I'm a bit concerned that the star gets lost in the shuffle.

Kansas City Monarchs

Reworking of a logo I designed a couple years back. I like how the cap turned out. Less sure on the home jersey. It looks to me like a corporate logo is advertising on a jersey—some prescription drug company that wants you to ask your doctor about Monarchs.

There's some quite unusual coloring and all on the Kansas City Monarchs here, but no less than many of my items posted so far on these boards, to be sure. Interesting way of putting things for them, to say the least, but it's not necessarily done poorly, I think. It is a bit hard to read the KC letters where they're seen on the relevant items, perhaps, seeing the wide variety of colors in very close proximity to each other, but I still think they look good here, just the same.

That's basically all I wanted to say right here and right now about your recent take on the KC Monarchs, omniart. Keep up the good work here as best as you can, Lord willing and all, I hope. CD out.

Thank you. I had worked up a completely different set for the Royals but didn’t like it at all. I tried some other ideas but was getting frustrated and almost gave it all up before hitting on this design.

I decided to try something new. I made 29 uniform sets for Seattle, all based on my Seattle Steelheads set. I began by making a couple of other sets simply by changing the nickname on the home uniform. Keeping the S logo and the font, I changed the colors and design elements and ended up making seven other uniform variations, each of which I used for three or four nicknames. You know what? It's easier to show than to tell: the attached pic should demonstrate what I'm talking about.

Here is a list of the eight uniform groups. I'll explain some of the nickname choices later.
  1. Green & Blue: Cascadians, Chinooks, Steelheads.
  2. Green & Black: Baristas, Emeralds, Evergreens, Juniors.
  3. Red & Black: Lamestains, Orcas, Sockeyes.
  4. Brown: Cosmic Lattes, Fishmongers, Marmots, Mountaineers.
  5. Black & White: Grays, Ravens, Tyees—plus Rain City away jersey and cap.
  6. Black & Gold: Dazzlers, Finches, Murder Hornets.
  7. Pink & Purple: Blackberries, Rhodies, Shuckers.
  8. Blue & Gold: Clamdiggers, Fishermen, Pilots.
