Has anyone done a purse / prize cash award type league?

Just wondering if anyone has done a league where everyone has to put up money to enter than at the end theres cash prizes?? Just curious, dont think I would actually do it since im already running the USBBL but I think its an awesome idea.

I imagine the stress level of such a league would be high. Potential cheating, every questionable trade heatedly debated. I think with the right group it would be fun, but I would imagine it would need to be a pretty small league with people who knew eachtother in advance to be anything less than a nightmare for the person running it.

Play Ball gives away a gift certificate to www.ballcap.com to our WS winner. It costs each owner 3.00 per season to buy the 48.00 it costs to buy one of their great caps.

works great in our league.............

That does sound like fun, stakes are small enough its a nice bonus for the winner. More like a prize and less like gambling. How did you get it started? Required it at start, people who knew eachother put the league together on this premise, or something you guys decided to start doing after the league was going for a bit?

I'll just take a T-shirt that tells everyone I'm the USBBL champ.

While I'm not really intrested in joining such a league, I wouldn't really be that nervous about a commish ripping me off or collusion.

People occasionally discuss leagues-for-money on this board. Every once in a while, one starts. Past attempts have ended quickly, with tears and gnashing of teeth.

This idea reminds me of my many friends who can’t get enthusiastic about any sort of competition unless there’s a wager involved.

Not to totally hijack this thread but after seeing Mark's post I was wondering about a good customizer to get my Surf logo made into either a t-shirt or ballcap of some sort?

Also, I like the idea of a league with some sort of prize at the end but again, it would take a ton of trust.

We started it when the league started.

Brad, check out cafepress.com, but the ballcap.com caps arent caps from our teams in the PB, you can choose any cap from them.

I knew you would respond to my post. OK, if by some miracle I get past you, the rest will be easy.
