Draft pool not obeying school frequencies

This is something I've noticed in my latest *** game.
One high school, Akashi Shogyo, represents 86 of my 310 draft prospects in the pool. Another high school, Komatsu, represents 28.


The former has a frequency of 10, the latter a frequency of 5. There are ten high schools with a higher frequency than the former, and the latter is tied with the bulk of the schools. And the supposed most frequent high schools, like Osaka Toin and Nihon Bunri, are sitting at 4 and 2 prospects in my draft pool.



I've already reloaded the schools.txt file once before this draft pool, and nothing's changed.


I did notice that Akashi Shogyo and Komatsu have lat/long specified, and the other schools don't. Would that have a role to play? Please let me know what information you need from my save file to assist in troubleshooting.

I would guess this is a possible explanation. It may be that the coordinates are tending to draw all the players who are geographically close to those schools.

I'd recommend adding in the coordinates for some of the other teams, including Osaka Toin and Nihon Bunri and then testing by simming ahead/generating a new class and seeing what the frequencies look like.

Worth a try, Lukas. I remember we've talked and emailed in the past about how most of those other Japanese schools weren't even in the schools.xml file because of how out of date it was.

Hopefully I don't have a bunch of Google Maps searching to do to make this work...I'll circle back later once I have tested it.

It's updated now though and has been for a few patches. If you still have the old one, that might also be a part of the problem. Though you should have the updated one if you have a recent patch.

If this is a save started back before it was updated, you'd also need to reload the world/schools db in your save, not from within the save files but from, the default OOTP folders and that should update it.

Yeah, I see the other schools in my World page and Schools page in my save, I did create after the DB was fixed. Just no lat/long coordinates for most of them.

To make sure, I created a brand-new *** only save, and the problem is present. I added coordinates for Osaka Toin, PL Gakuen, and Nihon Bunri in schools.xml and imported into a fresh *** only save, and compared the two's draft pools.

Akashi Shogyo: from 61 to 5
Komatsu: from 27 to 4
Osaka Toin: from 1 to 45
Nihon Bunri: from 2 to 41
PL Gakuen: from 1 to 9

That seems like we've got a root cause! So I think the logic needs to either avoid adding weight to schools with lat/long values, or the schools.xml needs a few hundred lat/long coordinates added.

The ultimate solution will be to add in the lat/long coordinates for the teams missing them.

I don't think we'd want to change the logic here, because things are actually basically functioning as they 'should' where players are more likely to play for schools (especially high schools) close to their hometown.

Adding in the lat/long for the Japanese High Schools in the db was already on my to do list, but not super high. I'll move it up a bit now. But if you (or anyone) would like to see it happen quicker, then you can take this file and fill in the missing coordinates and send me back the file, then we can import it into the world db and get it updated in game even quicker

I found a Google Sheets function someone coded to pull lat/long coordinates into a Sheet from Google Maps, added in the colleges and JuCos from the complete DB that didn't have coordinates, and voila - I'm close to a finished file. Just need to wait for the Google Maps API to let me finish geocoding the last hundred or so, I hit the limit today in testing.

Okay, file is ready! I didn't edit any other values than getting rid of the Korean characters (which turned into garbage when saving), so hopefully you don't have to VLOOKUP from this into your XML.

Please post back the completed XML when you're done so I can re-test.
