First off...excellent game. I've only been an OOTP'er for a year now, and still find myself glued to it for hours. One thing that had me a little ticked off in OOTP3, and that is recurring in OOTP4 is the practical GIVEAWAYS of potential franchise players. Milwaukee trading away Molitor in 1990? Houston trading Jeff Bagwell for prospects?? And the most unholy of all bogus trades...Baltimore trading Cal Ripken Jr. (who was an all-star that year in my season) for Hal (I hit .300 and still suck) Morris! It's a travesty! I would like to see where we could tag a player as being a "franchise player" so that these sort of doofus trades don't happen.
Also...on the topic of trades, I've turned my trades down to "very low," and I'm still seeing tons and tons of trades. In one year alone I saw at least 100 players (all from starting lineups) switch teams. Has anyone else seen such an outbreak of trades? These things aside, props to Marcus for giving us God's gift to baseball sims. I've not even touched any of the other crappy sims out there. Late. |

I never counted how many trades I see in a given year, probably not close to 100, but I do keep my trade level to LOW, I may bring it down to VERY LOW, it still seems a little much

Oh, here's another beauty in my season (on the trading deadline)...
(CHC) Ryne Sandberg to (ATL) for Ron Cant (spelling done purposely). Damn...ain't THAT the rape of the century. I can hear ole Harry Carey now, cussin' up a storm after he's just pounded down a 6 of Bud, and read the headline. "Cubs trade Ferrari for used Yugo" The scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz is running rampant in my season. I think I'll try to trade Steve Jeltz for Roger Clemens tomorrow. |

Agreed. Even with the patch blockbuster trades happen way to often usually involving these Franchise players - and thats with trades set at very low.

Of course, there will be blockbuster trades in the game and trades that make you go, "huh?!?"
I mean you might see Larry Anderson traded for Jeff Bagwell. Or Lee Mazilli traded for Ron Darling and Walt Terrell. Or John Smoltz traded for Doyle Alexander. Or Babe Ruth traded for Cash. Oh wait..that's in real life. Maybe real life should use the OOTP trading algorithm.

I just saw a team trade it's starting SS, its closer, best middle-reliever and a top IF prospect without getting a single major-league player back in return.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2002 Toronto Blue Jays. |

After having the same team for around3 years, and not winning a thing... well... what were they supposed to do? Keep the status quo and have a repeat of last year? The 2002 Jays will be very interesting

Maybe the teams that make these questionable trades just have bad scouts. Does this happen if all scouts are set to average or scouting is turned off?

Guys, face it: horrible trades are made in the real MLB every year (see above for details). If OOTP didn't have some horrible trades in it as well, it wouldn't be much of a baseball simulation.
I have been playing OOTP4 since alpha. During that time I have seen some wonderful trades in OOTP4. I have seen some very clever trades in OOTP4. I have seen some average, ho-hum trades in OOTP4. And I have seen some incredibly stupid trades made in OTP4, trades so bad that I sat there going "What the @#$% is this @#$?" And you know what? I see just the same sorts of things in the real MLB and have for years. And I have said the same bad words over some real MLB trades.

Ok there are some lopsided trades in real life also. But when i play this game i see griffey, nevin, and many other superstars from winning teams get traded at the Deadline and in the Offseason. This happens everysingle time and kinda ruins the fun huh.Its cool for a team to get rid of the Superstars when the team sucks to rebuild, but i have seen the yanks trade Jeter,Giambi, and Posada for prospects when they were in 1st.This needs to be addressed,i really dont want another HH on my hands

It's not that I'm concerned about the bad trades, I'm concerned about the frequency of them. EVERY season probably 10 of the top 15-20 stars in the league are traded - that's simply unrealistic, and this is at very low trade setting.

My trade setting is at normal. Playing replay of 1974 currently. At deadline, Boston, who is currently ahead of Yankees by two games, traded away about 7 players in three seperate trades, including one Mr. Yastrzemski!
Looking at their roster, it appears that the trade made sense based on their needs, so I don't really care about the star being traded. If I don't agree with a "franchise player" being traded, I let the season ride out, then return them back to their original team for something comparable. |
