2021 Euro 2020
No, I'm not even into it, at all, and I resent with all my heart their stupid concept to play the tournament in 12 countries, and even persist with that brain fart *now*, but, eh...
Watched Italy whoop Turkey earlier, 3-0, although it was more background noise. The Turks didn't do anything writing home about. Neat own goal though - should give a bonus point! I *do* look forward to our shambolic team of misfits to get routed by Portugal and France next week, though.

Euro. No one cares about the Olympics and soccer (football). In fact the Olympic teams don’t send the best from each country, it’s usually the U-21s.

Not sure about other nations (not all continental soccerball associations hold their continental tournament in the same year as the Olympics), but in Europe at least nobody cares a whole lot about the Olympics.

The game is suspended for the time being, while Christian Eriksen of Inter has been transported to the nearest hospital and is said to be alive.

That was a very scary moment. He is said to be in stable condition. I enjoy Tottenham and have watched a lot of games so I have seen a lot of Ericksen.
I hope it was just heat or blood sugar and he can bounce back and make a full recovery. But one of his teammates stuck his fingers inside of Ericksen's mouth, which makes me think seizure. I could not find a history of them from a quick search. So either his team and the Denmark staff know of them, or that teammate is a very quick thinker. Either way, he should be commended for keeping his airway clear. |

I'm an accountant, not a doctor, so I'm not gonna...
...and then they lost to the Fins, 1-0, on their only shot of the game. Something's rotten in the State of Denmark.

Denmark has a really good team as well and I had expected them to have an outside shot at finishing in the final four.
But seeing one of your teammates and one of the best players your nation has produced has to be difficult. And Finland is usually defensively sound as well. |

Now the more I read on it, he has a cardiac massage on the field. Yikes, that is super scary. I really hope he makes a full recovery and his career is not affected and his life is not altered in any way.

Its not "Usually", on the Men's side, the Olympics are specifically the U23 teams.

I was watching the Denmark game live, and that was a very scary and emotional moment. I cannot imagine what it was like for the Danish players to be standing their in a cordon to give some privacy to Erickson and the medical staff, and being able to hear what was going on behind them. Just glad that it appears that he will make it.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the best - completely pedestrian game until the 85th minute, then knocks in a pair in a late 3-0 win over Hungary.
![]() Meanwhile, if Germany got off beaten by three by the French, that would already be a success...

Unfortunately we were not allowed to dig some holes for traps for Mbappe to run into. There was at least one scene where he overtakes a defender with such speed *and the ball*, it looked like the German guy tried to run but just didn't have any legs. I say we got off easy.

The German team is still a bit of a mess.
Low has one foot out the door and is leaving as soon as the tournament is over. The squad is a mix of young and raw players and older players who are past their primes. I would rather he play the young players and get bounced in the group stages rather than play a mixture of the two. After this tournament, Germany needs to find a manager and staff that is committed to the future and nurture it's next generation and work on making sure it qualifies for the 2022 WC in November ( )The biggest issue is not the defence but the lack of an attack. The defence is going to look bad when it is under constant pressure. And past German teams were better at ball control and sustained attacks that allowed their defence time to rest or even let their fullbacks and centre backs join the attack. |

Germany lost this game in midfield. For German teams of the past, this was their strength. But, with the three at the back, they had an extra defender mostly just waiting to defend against Pogba's 30 yard balls for Mbappe to run onto. Perhaps the extra man in midfield would have prevented that and allowed Kroos and Gundogan to play further up the pitch to help bring creativity and purpose to the attack.
