Cleveland Black Cats - 1940s
Rip off of the Cubs? Rip off of the Cubs.

Cincinnati Snappers - 1940s
Next up is the Cincinnati Snappers. They were originally named for the great breaking balls thrown by their pitchers.
Like many of us, they had some wilder looks in their younger days, but have settled down as they've matured. They sport a nice traditional green-and-white look with pinstripes and a block C cap. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Columbus Red Sox - 1940s
Next up is the Columbus Red Sox. They sport an off-kilter script going down and to the right and thick trim across their jersey, but otherwise feature a fairly traditional baseball logo. Their look is not wholly dissimilar from the '46 Memphis Red Sox.

Motor City Braves - 1940s
The ball club from Detroit, the Motor City Chiefs, is unique among Northern teams in that they do not use the name of their city in their identity and feature an image on their cap rather than a letter. Their look is modeled after the Seattle Steelheads.

New York Black Kings - 1940s
The New York Kings are a founding LBL club patterned after the Yankees. The owners of the Manhattan powerhouse recognized the financial opportunity in the creating another major league and quickly seized the opportunity to form a second professional club -- the New York Black Kings.

Newark Jays - 1940s
The Newark Jays are, like several other teams in the set, named for the bird featuring their color scheme. Not very original, but neither were early baseball nicknames (if we are being honest).

Philadelphia Keystones - 1940s
Pennsylvania is the Keystone State and their most popular NLL franchise is the Keystones. The ‘Stones are a perennial contender, like their LBL counterpart, the Brewers. Their home field is usually packed by adoring fans hoping to watch their beloved Stones roll.

Cool jerseys, i plan on using many of them. Any chance you can label them properly so they are easier to drop into the ballcaps, jersey and logo folders?

I think what The Game is getting at is when we "Save image as..." from your posts, because you're using imgur, it doesn't save them as "properly labeled," such as jerseys_philadelphia_keystones_1940-1949. It saves them as 4RJDew9, as an example. I think he's hoping to be able to just click and save them straight from the posts.
Very nice work, btw!!

Pittsburgh Rollers - 1940s
Pennsylvania's other team, and the main rival to the Philadelphia Keystones, are the Pittsburgh Rollers. The origin of the name is not entirely clear, but there are two prevailing schools of thought. The first is that the name originated from the volatile, streaky play of the early Pittsburgh teams where they would either flatten competition or roll over. The second is that the name was a barb at their Philadelphia counterparts. If Philadelphia is the 'Stones, then Pittsburgh is the Rollers.
I realize the sleeve patch is kitschy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by LBL_Brendan; 06-01-2021 at 02:07 PM. |

Washington Hoppers - 1940s
The last team to present for the 1940s is the Washington Hoppers. Named for their early defensive wizardry, the Hoppers, throughout their history, have generally prioritized the pitching-and-defense aspect of the game while playing inside baseball when at-bat.
This one is another personal favorite of mine -- chain stitched sleeve patch, chest patch on the home jerseys and clean block text on the simple road grays. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by LBL_Brendan; 06-01-2021 at 01:35 PM. |

New Orleans Blackbirds - 1930s
For Eugene, the New Orleans Blackbirds of the 1930s. Their look is based off of the San Francisco Sea Lions. The blackbird patch and logo is potentially recognizable to those with small kids.

Atlanta Foxes - 1930s
The '30s are going to skip around a bit more because I don't have everything done yet. But, we will more or less start in the same place with the Atlanta Foxes. As you can see, the Foxes' look in the '30s was the slightly more radical version of their '40s look. Modeled after the '39 Atlanta Crackers, the Foxes featured heavy drop shadow on their caps and uniforms during the 1930s.

Savannah Goobers - 1930s
Returning to one of my favorite team identities, the Goobers. This look is based on the '32 Houston Buffalos, while still featuring all of the peanutty crunch you'd expect from the Savannah club.

Nashville Comets - 1930s
Comets in the 30s were pretty similar to the 40s. Jerseys had some pinstripes and the cap was all green rather than featuring a yellow brim. The fuzzy baseball in the logo hadn't been added yet.
As an aside, I will probably go back at the end of the series and edit the Comets unis for the 30s and 40s. They were done before I really figured out what I was doing and so look a little wonky to my eyes now--the curve is off. When I do, I'll edit the relevant posts and also upload a zip file with the complete set of NLL files 00s - 40s. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Cleveland Black Cats - 1930s
CBC in the 30s have a slightly different Cubs'/Cats' C. Away unis feature classic Red Sox Tuscan/Fancy font.
