Trading draft picks

Has anyone else enabled draft pick trading in their game? If so, have you ever been able to actually COMPLETE a trade of first round picks? Anytime I bring up trading picks the other team's AI just decides it's the worst idea in the world. I've even offered ALL my picks for their first rounder with no bite.

Just wondering if anyone else runs into this...

I've had it on since I started back in 16. I find it bewildering that the mlb doesnt allow this.

It's hard to get first round picks in trades unless it's from teams like the Dodgers picking at the end of the round.

I've had some success trading players for picks, but the AI on the other side never asks or cares about any picks I try and trade them, even the first pick of the draft.

Yes, I do in all my fictional leagues. The AI is greedy with them though, although sometimes I can get a trade accepted by tacking on a low pick (10+ round) that I probably would have autodrafted anyway

I always have it on and yes, you can trade for firsts, but it's always involved trading a player for the pick. I've tried trading up a few times, but I don't recall it ever working, at least in a trade I'd have been ok with offering

They must have made it more difficult. Used to be an easy way to dominate.

But, gotta consider if you are offering a late first round pick.. late 2nd, late 3rd.. no sane person would ever take that for a top1-5 pick or even 1-10.. the talent drop (probability / ceiling / just in fewer words) off after that is immense. The ai is smart enough to say no to that.

if you can get 2-5 picks in the top 5ish... it is worth it to sell off other picks, unwanted prospects and about-to-age vets...

Don't be afraid to go about it in another way, too... trade for "last" years talent (or any previous year for that matter, but as you cycle it'll mostly be from the more recent drafts.

even if it costs more than a 1st rounder, you can get a 1st round quality return with a much higher success rate / accuracy of skills etc etc... again, if you can get 2+ high end prospects every year (not counting failures/bad scouting - draft or trading for young prospects), that's ~enough to do some crazy long-term planning with roster that allows you to win insane amount of games every year... you'll think 120wins is a total failure, lol, or took a catastrophic amount of injuries to drop that low.

maybe, they've cut all these avenues off.. i haven't had draft pick trading on in a long time.

Yes. Just yesterday I wanted to trade up... ended up going through multiple steps to get from the 2nd pick in Round 3 to the 14th pick in Round 1.

Every time, I had to offer a little more. In my case, I had a couple hundred million in cash, so if I offered my pick plus cash, the AI gave me the upgraded pick if I chose the right team to make the deal with.

I find trading for a First round pick a little more successful with a team that is strapped for cash and in a Win Now mode. I have always had it on. Once in a blue moon, I will get an offer in email where the AI is asking for a player and includes a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Then when I go to discuss, the AI has the "Worst trade ever"...then I most of the time accept the trade just to get their pick.

I suppose they could but what team in their right mind trades a top 5 or 10 pick? I guess those are the types of picks users are trying to trade for? A team drafting that high is usually a small market team and what would they get of value they could afford? Better off with a highly touted prospect, with lots of upside (hopefully), and years of control at rates they can afford.

If the draft is thin and top 5 isn't getting you normal top 5 expectations then who would want to trade for it anyway?
