SP fatigue and more even distribution of starts
I know there has been a lot of chatter about position player fatigue in PT 22, but I wanted to bring up something interesting I've seen with starting pitcher fatigue.
I have my rotation set to "always start highest rested", and I've noticed that my #1-#4 starters have all started 18 games (on pace for 33) and my #5 starter has started 17 games (on pace for 31).
I've never seen my starting rotation get such an even distribution of starts with "highest rested" turned on. In PT 20 and 21, you'd typically see pitchers #1-#5 get somewhere in the ballpark of 37, 35, 34, 31, and 25 starts, respectively.
It looks like pitchers will not reach 100% stamina after four days rest if they threw 110+ pitches in their previous start, which results in the #5 starter soaking up a lot more innings than he would in previous versions of PT.
I think this creates some interesting strategy questions going forward. In the past, I favored a top-heavy rotation, and my #5 starter was a guy who I didn't mind getting skipped for the entire playoffs (didn't want to bother changing to a 4-man rotation every Sunday). I might have to re-think this strategy if the fifth starter plays a bigger role during the regular season.
