Has anyone tweaked with feeder league roster size to create a better product?

I love having feeders for the sake of immersion, with a growing NCAA (currently at 160 or so teams) feeder league and an ensuing College World Series I get to keep tabs on, but along with my high school and JuCo feeder leagues, I've got over 4200 players in this year's draft pool, out of a possible 1080 picks (36 teams, 30 rounds). This has got me to thinking of drastically cutting NCAA roster sizes to limit the bloat of players. Anyone try this? Perhaps a 3-man starting rotation, 4-man bullpen, smaller bench? I mean how many dedicated starting pitchers do college teams "really" have?

Well I have 304 teams NCAA and 52 team HS feeders and I limit roster size to 26 players and I have around 4200 to 7000 free agents at any one time. Kinda of big but for the fictional world I created not too bad. I have around 36-40 leagues scattered around the world so I need a lot of free agents

From my experience in my ACBA COL league, you need to consider two key factors: stamina and injury ratings.

I'm using 25 active / 45 total rosters in this league and (in my role as the Hofstra manager / GM) have found us running out of live arms over the course of our 4-game weeks, mainly because 2 of our 4 starters have really low stamina ratings.

And it's not as if teams are running out of pitchers under these settings, but if you lose any of your starters to injury the dropoff in quality is huge.

Of course, if you're merely spectating rather than actively managing a team, neither of these issues will really bother you too much and you could possibly scale back both the active and secondary rosters by a couple / few players.

As far as them feeding goes, the thing is the general quality of players being fed is usually fairly low and so a lot of this bloat ends up being totally dead weight for your MLB level.

That sounds amazing. May I ask, how big is the file size for this save (and after how many seasons played is that)?

That’s kind of been my thinking. My universe is completely fictional so I’ll probably just keep adding indie leagues to absorb the undrafted college free agents.

I start in 1871 and I am up to 1954. I add leagues and teams and try to create my own fictional baseball history. I think my save file from last night came in a little over a gig, by the time I hit 2021 I expect it to be a little over 3 gigs. Yes its big but that is part of the joy in creating it. Then in about 2000 or so I will take a team from my Major league and see what I can do with it.

I would be more than happy to share anything if anyone is interested.

Wow, that's way smaller than I anticipated. My ACBA save - 100 COL teams / 24 HS teams / 4 MLB / MiLB levels with 16 teams each - is only one season in and already more than 4 GB. My TBA save - an association of 50 leagues / 300-odd teams with no minors - was over 1GB at setup and 2.5 GB and causing big problems four seasons in, many of which I believe are size-related; to the point I've had to put it on hold and try to sort them out so I can continue. In both I keep reports to a min / no replays or highlights or 3D movements, and I have a top-of-the range 2020 MacBook Pro.

Are you using facegens?

Sidenote: Do you post about that league on here or elsewhere?

I will have to go back and double check, you are right that does seem kinda small. I have not posted much about it on here I didn't think anyone really cared, but I would be more than happy to share any info you would like to know. Got to 1964 this weekend and the universe is just humming along. My main league is the USBL , (I know very original :-) ) with full minors and feeders along with 7 independant leagues and 18 international leagues. I just added in the Olympics, there will be a Latin America Championship and a European championship added soon.

Let me just say this - if you did start posting on here, I would be an avid follower.

Well thank you. I will have to see about setting up a post with details. Kinda happy someone else wants to know about it, I am quite happy with my creation.
