Cap Images Missing Colors In 3D Games

Originally posted this here:

The first image shows what my team's hat looks like. As you can see, the top is all blue and the brim is all red.

The second image shows what the cap looks like on the field.

The front of the brim has an area of white that looks like an eclipse moving toward the rest of the hat. And only the front section of the cap is blue; the rest of it is white. It's not just my team. I see this on other teams, as well.

Here is a fairly good view of the issue, showing both sections of lost color.

Unfortunately, this is not really a bug, just an issue with mods that were created long before we even had 3d in-game that are not fully coloring the cap.

You'll need to find a different set of modded caps that do color the cap in completely.

Lukas,

In laymen's terms, does this mean that the cap template (such as shown in my post) would look different with a current mod? Does that apply to uniforms, as well? And, finally, how far back can we go with a mod like this before it no longer meets the current system design? That would help me see if I can find a historical mod that will work with the 3D engine.

Yes, basically.

Probably not, as I've only ever seen some old cap designs use the cut-off template. Never recall seeing it for uniforms.

It's hard to say just based on age. Even with the older mods iirc most used the full cap template, and in that case will show up just fine in-game. Of the newer mods, I believe pretty much all do.

There were just a few mod makers who tended to make the caps with only a narrow strip colored in, and those are the ones that will look funny when using them in 3d. I don't remember specifically who they were.

But when you're downloading a mod, you'll just want to check and make sure the full cap is colored in. If it is, it'll show up fine in 3d. If not, it won't.
