In the top of the third, a 419 foot two-run shot by Otis put the Royals back in the lead. In the bottom of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out on three walks. But Howard grounded into the inning-ending 4-6-3. After three: Kansas City 4 Texas 2. In the top of the fourth, rain began to fall. With the bases empty and nobody out, play was stopped for a 26 minute rain delay. In the top of the fifth, an RBI single by Mayberry extended the Royals lead. Mayberry went on to score from third when Piniella grounded to third. With a runner on second and two out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers and struck Rojas out to retire the side. In the bottom of the sixth, Kubiak knocked in two with a two-out triple. After six: Kansas City 6 Texas 4. In the top of the seventh, Mayberry scored from third when Nelson dropped a Piniella pop fly. Rojas added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. In the top of the eighth, Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers. In the bottom of the eighth, Tom Burgmeier took the mound for the Royals. In the top of the ninth, the Royals loaded the bases with one out. Cox got Kirkpatrick to go after a bad pitch on a 1-2 count for the second out. Pinch hitter Bob Oliver then popped to short to retire the side. In the bottom of the ninth, Ted W Abernathy took the mound for the Royals with a four-run lead to protect and he retired the Rangers in order to end the game. The Royals got 11 hits in the win while 3 errors contributed to the Rangers loss. Final score: Kansas City 8 Texas 4.
