Any idea why my stats are so high?

So Im playing a random eras historical game using 1987 settings. Im doing just a 100 game schedule, yet Im getting some pretty inflated offensive stats... like, comparable to a full 162....

			Any ideas why? |

Are your league totals also out of whack?

I am speculating here but 1987 was a season in which there was a lot of offense, particularly the number of home runs hit. Is it possible that the league modifiers are accommodating the same levels of offensive production from a 162 game season within a shorter 100 game schedule? Could you try with, for example, 1988 and see what happens?

Wonder if it's a combination of the the smaller league size, shortened season and the fact that 1987 was such a bizarre season in regards to offense altogether. It's almost as if 1987 was an expansion year without expansion. Runs were way up, home runs were way up. The league ERA jumped from 3.96 in 1986 to 4.28 in 87. It went all the way back down to 3.72 in 1988. Teams averaged 147 home runs in 1986, 171 in 87 and 122 in 1988. Ugh, looks like I was typing when you already came to the same conclusion. Sorry.

Lately I use 1991 as my historical year, and keep it, regardless of what era I am playing in. I like the outcomes, the occasional 40 homer season, the occasional 20-game winner. Otherwise, good and competitive and baseball scores in most games, not football scores. I also always play without the DH in both leagues.

Here is a good link which can help you see more or less at a glance which years are more offensive vs pitching.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/l.../MLB/bat.shtml You can see 1987 has an unusual uptick in runs per game, particularly in HR and slugging, than the surrounding years. |
