New player need help for global and individual strategies
Hi,
First of all, english is not my native language so i'm sorry if i made mistakes or misunderstandings... I feel that i have a relatively good comprehension of ootp now (rules, trades,...). I learned a lot in stats from twitch or in this forum (found a BIG post on how stats are "working" in the game :https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...light=strategy). But now i'm working on understanding strategies (global or individual). Does any of you have a guide, or youtube vids, or more siply advices on how must i create strategy based on the players i have ? Thanks for your help, and i'm glad to be part of this community (what a game !!). have a nice day ![]() Salamandre |

There are videos on youtube on various subjects. Just search OOTP and you'll find them. They don't have to be OOTP 22 to be useful to you.
The post you linked is for Perfect Team (PT). I don't know have applicable it is to a solo game. However the detail is much more than a beginning player can use. Suggest you take a decent team. Doesn't have to be a great team. Set ratings to 100% accurate and use the ratings to evaluate your players. |

@Joe: i play both.
I'm trying to understand what is really influenced by the sliders and how i can construct running, pitching, based on strategy... for PT and also (much more) for dynasty. @Brad: thx for your answer. PT and dynasty are different for game engine stat using ? |

That's cool. Lots of people here who will be glad to help. Remember that, when asking for help, more information is always better than less. Plenty of people come on these forums and ask "what should I do?" And the answer is usually: "what are you trying to do?"

@Joe: thx
By default, my offensive strategy is all at the most left. Pitch and def: pitch, walk, hold are one clic next to most left. Infield, corners and lines, 2 from the most right Shifts one of the most right pitching: hook on quick (middle) matchups 2 from right pinch hit for pitchers no runner and no pinch from positions players... Opener at middle. Objective is to fortify defense by limiting errors (in offense or defense) and build L and R lineups which use good gap and contacts and HR if i can. When i got stealers, baserunners,...i put player strategy... I'm looking to use player strat on pitchers, but do not know how exactly... |

I previously used player strategy to limit steals and hit an run to those who were capable, and to kill sacrifice bunts for everyone but pitchers. I since found doing these things in the overall team strategy has a similar effect on steals and sacrifice bunts.
I don't know any stats that allow determination of the effectiveness of hit and run. I also determined that the lowest strike out team is maybe 20% better than average and that's not enough to create a hit and run advantage.So I don't increase hit and run and often cut it. I agree with your position of reducing pinch hitters and pinch runners for position players. Note some of my suggestions and some of your settings will have different effects in different eras and may be inadvisable in extreme eras. |

@Brad:
Hello, I think there are some hidden stats to "keep" the game as realistic as possible, even if it includes some biases. The hit and run stat must be a derivative of contact and speed, weighted by a pitcher stat perhaps, but for 20% potential total gain, it would be interesting to find how we can measure the associated risk percentage to extract "reel gain"... Brad, how do you organise your batting lineup (choose the position of players) and what's yout thinking about the shifts sliders ? Last edited by Salamandre; 04-11-2021 at 09:01 AM. |

I play 1951 until Barry Bonds retires in the game which is 2005 - 2010. All comments relate to this year range and OOTP 21.
The thing to remember about the sliders is the center point is not an absolute value. That value changes based on the league strategic tendencies for the year being played. If you were to move the slider all the way to the right in 1960 you'd get a lot more shifts. Do the same in 2000 and the increase won't be as much because the value in the center is higher to start with and there's less increase possible. I don't set it for more shifts because I don't know the effect. But I do know if I leave it centered I'm getting league average so overall aren't hurting myself. I choose who is going to play and who the subs are. I have sabermetric lineups set and let AI determine the batting order. I'll sometimes change the leadoff hitter. I think AI values speed too much. I'm more interested in on base than speed. One season AI insisted on batting Freddie Patek leadoff because of his speed. I didn't like that because of his poor on base percentage. So I put in player strategy to force bat 9th That way if he did get on the top of the lineup could benefit from his speed but I wouldn't have a poor on base guy leading the team in plate appearances. |

Interesting...I'll try to look that.
I'm looking to start a dynasty in challenge mode. I'll test your vision and come to continue our talk just after

One of the most interesting runs I had in last year's game was when I hired an Unorthodox manager that basically had every tendency maxed.
It was interesting building a team to fit that, and it was near unstoppable even though many of the players themselves were 50-60 level, and most of that was because of their defense (especially SS and 2B). I haven't found a guy like that in 22. I'd like to try it again. It was weird, fun, and very unorthodox indeed. |
