Build A Legend, Silver to Gold Question

If I buy a Silver 'Build A Legend' card from the auction house, will I be able to convert that to a Gold card later without ever owning the original Bronze card?

Or will I still have to complete the Bronze to Silver 'collection mission' anyways, even though I already own the Silver?

That is what I am asking here:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=326911

This is a good question. My assumption is you will need the bronze and Silver cards to build the Gold? If you didn't then you wouldn't be building and you would just buy the latest build to get the next one. But I am assuming, so it would be nice if someone (like Kris) can chime in.

sounds like there is going to be 3 sets of Build-A-Legend series? So thats a total 90 bronze cards that will all yield a Silver, Gold, Diamond and Perfect? So thats 450 cards total? Then how do these cards go into the Franchise Hero program?

Yea I accidentally bought a Silver Build-A-Legend card from the Auction House thinking it was a Bronze. I just saw the relatively cheap price (for Build A Legend) and instinctively thought "Oh man, I gotta scoop this up before someone else does!"

Now I just feel dumb cuz it's probably just a typical Silver card that I can't even upgrade now. Oh well, you live and you learn I guess.

I was tempted to do the same thing, but I don't know the answer 100%. You can still be good?

My gut feeling is we're probably going to need the Bronze to actually 'Build the Legend', so I put the Silver back on the auction house for a cheaper price.

No one's bought it yet though, kind of confirming my suspicions that the Silvers are just flat out useless by themselves. I'm sure there will be an answer to this soon enough...

you say the silvers are flat out useless, but my tournament team made up of the BALs just won me 3 historic packs today. Now, I didn't get anything out of them so maybe they are useless...

OOTP has already turned me off to this whole Build-A Legend concept. Opened far too many packs and obtained zero build a legend cards. Not worth the effort...

Not sure if they are useless or not? It might be a good buy in the AH? Just can't get a concrete answer.

Yea I'm somewhat surprised we haven't gotten a definitive answer on this yet.
I bought the Bronze version of the Silver I 'accidentally' bought just to be safe...

I'm still guessing we will need all of the cards to actually upgrade the player to Legend status. Otherwise it would just be too easy IMO.

This is a slow burn. I must keep focusing on getting packs through tournaments and seeing what comes. I have gotten three Bronze Build-A-Legend cards so far and have completed about ten of the Bronze to Silver missions.I have no expectations of finishing all of the missions but it will be fun to work on them over time.

Ok, so our guess was right then--in order to build the Legend you *do* need every card for the player, including the Bronze...
I think it's a pretty cool game mode, definitely looking forward to it. Thanks for sending the link.

I think that is still up for interpretation. I am looking at "Also, if you "buy into" a tier, you still need to complete the mission for that tier (example, you buy the Bronze, Silver, Gold & Diamond cards, you would still need to complete the Diamond mission) in order to unlock the Perfect reward)"

They mention completing the Diamond mission to get the Perfect reward. There is nothing said about the lower missions. To me, that means you can technically buy the Diamond card, then complete the Diamond mission to get the Perfect reward. Even the picture says to get the perfect card, complete the Peavy Diamond mission (the card) and the Diamond BAL mission. No mention of previous BAL missions anywhere.

When you complete the missions to upgrade to the Silver cards, do you keep the original Bronze cards with the Silver version being an additional card in your collection or does the Bronze card disappear and get converted into the Silver version?

EDIT - I just answered my own question. It creates the Silver card in addition to the original Bronze card.

This was my interpretation too. I have no clue how those cards will be priced, though

I see no room for interpretation. You need all of the lower tier cards, not just the one you want to upgrade. In the quote you pulled, his example of "buying in" at the Diamond tier includes buying the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond cards. If he meant you could just buy the Diamond card, he could have said so.

More to the point, he flatly says, "In order to complete a tier, you need to have the previous tier(s) B-A-L card(s) and complete the mission for that tier (example, to complete the Gold tier you will need the Silver and Bronze version of the B-A-L card and complete the Silver Mission for that player to finish the Gold Unlock mission)". It is unambiguous. You need all the previous tier(s), which is singular only for the Bronze -> Silver step.

Edit: You need all the previous cards, whether you unlock them yourself through missions or buy them. The previous missions that you can skip are the collection missions with other cards from the same year (e.g., "Player Name - Bronze Mission").

This is where we were getting stuck. Only needing the BAL cards and NOT the Name - Mission cards to complete BAL is a big distinction. So yes, you should only need to complete the "Player Name - Diamond Mission" if you have all the previous BAL cards. In theory, the gold/diamond BAL cards should have the cost of the mission priced in when they hit the AH.

I'm curious why it's not required to have the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Name missions completed. Even if they were concerned about making SE cards sellable, that's not exclusive to making the mission required.

Ok, I looked again, and I think I see how they will do it. I missed that quote you mentioned.

Using the diagram in their tutorial, The Peavy Bronze/Silver/Gold is not specifically mentioned as required to obtain the Peavy Perfect. The Silver Peavy Mission requires only 1 card (Bronze Peavy). I've been thinking all the Peavy missions will only require one card, which confused me. I bet the Bronze/Silver/Gold/Diamond Peavys are part of the Perfect Peavy Mission.
