I'm starting a historical sim from 1900 with a draft every year. From what I can tell Japanese players/Negro League players become part of a draft class in the year they joined the MLB in real life. For example, Ichiro will appear in a draft class at 28 years old, somewhere around 2001 (the game is very inconsistent with historical drafts).

Is there a way to have Ichiro or Satchel Paige join MLB at age 21?

As a somewhat related follow up:

To help me keep track of things better/decrease sim time I'm just using a Major League roster and a reserve roster. Is there a way to set up the age requirements so that a player can only appear on the Major League roster at age 20, but can appear on a reserve roster before that age? In OOTP 20 it seemed like random players just wouldn't be part of draft classes and would instead just appear as free agents if I set up the age minimum to 18.

I have no idea if I'm explaining this accurately, so let me know if I need to rephrase some things.

i could be wrong on this so I'll PM someone for clarification.

With historical minors checked and draft turned on Paige should come into the league that he debuted at in the NLB.

As far as Ichiro or any Non ML:B/NLB player goes you should be able to switch to an old Spritze HS DB but then all players would be 18. You could also, to my knowledge, it's been awhile since i tried this create a text file or one at a time using an old Sprtize HS DB. I forgot what the rules are for importing from his old DB's I'm DM one or 2 people.

If you check the Negro/Historical Minors box as in the pic above, then you'll get Paige and other NL guys in the year they are first in the NL db (which may or may not be their first NL year, it depends on what league they debuted in and if that's a league we have in the db or not) and other guys in the first year they played in the affiliated minors.

Is there a way to possibly import Ichiro for example, into a draft, or as a free agent, by himself (in like 1995)? Would that then remove him from the draft class year in the database (or would I delete him later when he shows up again)?

So i downloaded the last Spritze Db i could find

Then imported Ichiro as a rookie in 1992. You could always modify his Of rating manually.

Nope, I play with the minor league option and we get the first minor leaguers in 1882 (maybe one year on or off) even if the game minor league structure won't exist for many years...

I know since I must create the minor leagues manually in my game, I ask every years to add them in the game but it never happen

In my historical random debut games, every player debuts the year before their RL debut by default for some reason. I'm fine with that, but I like to keep it consistent across the board. I'd bring Ichiro in via Spritze with 1990 as the year. My draft is in November, so when the calendar flips before his debut season, it would be as if it was 1991, which would make his debut season his age 17 season. I'd then delete the 26 year old version of him. IRL, he actually debuted at 18 in the ***.

With Paige, I'd bring him in in 1924, so he could debut at 18 because the whole premise of the Spritze DB is what might've happened had this guy come directly from high school? I'd then delete the 40 year old guy. It's possible both these guys have younger versions of themselves in the OOTP DB, but I wouldn't know about it because in RD, everybody debuts when they did in MLB. I know you're not playing HRD, but that's how I'd handle giving them more time then they actually had in MLB IRL.

Piggybacking off my earlier questions.

I'm starting in 1901 and I've done the following in league creation:

I've imported Complete history up to 1901
Imported real Negro/Minor Leagues
I've turned off the Financial System
I've edited the names of three teams
Turned off Spring Training
Scheduled an All Star Game (no HR Derby)
Turned off Automatic League Expansion
Changed the number of games to 154
Did NOT Check hold Inaugural Fantasy Draft
Created an Active Roster minimum age of 19 and maximum of 50

and all 16 team rosters are empty and everyone's a free agent.

Any idea what might have caused this? I'm running some tests now to see. I have a feeling it's either the Auto League Expansion (I know there's been issues in the past in starting in 1900 or 1901 due to the AL) or the active roster age minimum/maximum (but I'm not sure why everyone would be gone if they fall between those two points).

If I assign age min/max later on will it unroster everyone again?

If you disable the amateur draft at Game Settings > League Settings > Rules > Amateur Draft Settings before you've started your game (i.e. when you're setting it up), you should begin with all the players assigned to their proper teams. I think you'd want to leave that box unchecked if you want players to continue to be assigned to their teams as you move forward. Players that did not play in MLB will come in as free agents I think.
