Garciaparra and Trammell

I find it interesting that with only nine top prizes for the Live Missions (six from completing the divisions, two from completing each league, and one for finishing them all) they decided to have two shortstop awards in the American League. What do you all think about this?

I’m guessing that they are trying to avoid having the cookie cutter teams that we saw last year as people completed the live missions. We’ll see a bunch of starting rotations with Young, Sutton, Langston, and Verlander but there will be a lot more variety at C, 1B, 2B, LF, and in the pen. If that was the thought process then I’m good with it.

Nomar qualifies at 1B, which is where I currently have him playing. Will that be great long term? Probably not. But right now he can help accumulate offensive stats for me.

Good to know. How is his defense at 1st?

I think a bit more emphasis was put on splitting up the tiers.

So at the top, you had IF, OF, SP and for the divisional you had SS, 3B, CF, SP x 3

When do the ratings increase for a secondary positing, have a player in a secondary position for most of the season and have not seen it go up even 1 point?

Two questions:

1. Which player, what position, and what are his relevant fielding ratings for that position (C/IF/OF)? I get the impression that the "T#: Y/N" ability-to-train ratings are not just for historical eligibility, but also to indicate whether a live player has the minimum skill ratings to earn any positive rating at a position. But it is possible there is an error for one card and he is considered eligible at a position without the skills to actually learn it. Or he is eligible, but it will be glacially slow (e.g., maximum rating < 10 at C).

2. Are you looking at his position ratings in Manage Cards, or somewhere in your team's roster/lineup screens? Even though you can see position ratings in both places, they are different. The Manage Cards ratings are the default ratings for the card and do not update with experience gained, Presumably this is so PT does not have to phone home to the server to check for each card's experience, which would be the same reason you cannot see player stats on that screen, only (constant) ratings. The team roster/lineup ratings are current including experience at new positions.

Secondary Positions

Garciaparra @ 3rd Base I changed his position to 3b and DEF is always showing 50. So you are saying there is another place to see his experience? the ones on card don't change? I'm looking in my Roster/Lineup after every game no change.

Rating increase gradually as they get more experience in the position. If your player is playing the position but not increasing, he is probably already at his max.

Based on Garciaparra's fielding ratings, it looks to me like he should train up higher than 50 at 3B, so I have a very important follow-up question:

Are you actually playing him at 3B, or just changing his listed position? Position ratings only improve with experience, meaning innings played in games, not by changing where they are listed on the team roster.

I believe Garciaparra is maxxed out at 3B. Since he didn't hit the % mark in games there for his career, he won't be able to train higher than his current value.
