When I set up a costom team logo or a custom uniform, I never ever ever ever ever want the game to change it.
Under any circumstances. Ever. There's a box I can check to preserve team logos and uniforms, but the program sometimes ignores it. I just went to add a Juco league to my fictional game. It seemed to be taking forever at "checking parent team logos..." and of course there was a reason for that...it was checking every team or at least every major league team, in the game and changing logos, even though I had the box checked not to change them. I haven't looked to see if it messed with uniforms or not. Fortunately I backed the game up, so I can roll it back, but I guess I can never add another league to the game or it'll diddle with the custom logos and probably uniforms. We need that box to mean to never ever ever ever ever change those for existing teams. As in never. UPDATE: It did not change the custom uniforms, but in addition to changing team colors to match the logos it chose to overwrite mine, when I told it to lock all of that, it undid at least one custom ballpark made with the ballpark editor, which is otherwise a big improvement (though not quite right yet, because the seating one puts in can cut in front of the walls so as to make balls disappear behind the seating)! If I hadn't backed it up just before, it wouldn't be possible to get my parks back without reconfiguring then. Ouch!!!! Stop letting it change one league when I add another, or at least have a box that says to never ever ever change these things. Never. Not if it thinks my computer will explode if it doesn't change it to its defaults. Never ever. Ever. Last edited by Anyone; 04-02-2021 at 08:00 PM. |

A new update: Even when I restore from backup I get the awful "creating/checking parent team logos" (and affiliate team logos) thing and it still changes my logs, ballparks, etc..
The game is too damn bossy!!!! Of course it unchecks the box that says not to change the logos. There is no way to stop the logos and ballparks from being reset. The bos that says to preserve the logos, etc.. should never, ever be overridden. This is a long time issue, but it seems worse this time. I have in the past added leagues to my world without having this happen. Give me an unoverridable box so it never checks to change logos, colors, and heck the ballparks I created...ever. Ever. Ever. So much you made me redo. |

100% this - it is SO annoying... Also, it would be nice if in an online league, that caps and jerseys would travel with a new league file, and not just logos...

So.
I work hard, get most of my stuff back, have to manually import some logos from the 2020 version logo directory, which was probably part of why it overwrote mine (but not the whole reason; it's overwritten logos that were in its logos directory). Then, the game having never crashed since I started with this year's version, crashed when playing a game...maybe related to my throwing new data into the directories, or something else it forced me to do that I wouldn't have had to do it it had just not overwritten anything. I think I'm going to be famatical about this until it's either put in a patch or Markus explains why it's impossible to do. Simply give us a checkbox, like we have for each team, that says under no circumstances overwrite logos, colors, parks, uniforms, etc. (unless we manually choose to change them ourselves). But make it absolute, never auto-unchecked, never overridden. No need to ever force us to change any of those things if we want to keep what we have. |

Have you tried deleting the default logos that are replacing your custom ones? Like the first thing i do is delete all the default logos... the ones that end in .oi I think then I make a copy of my logos, jersey, cap and .fg folders before I update the game anytime there is a new update to make sure the game only sees the modded stuff instead of default stuff.

We shouldn't have to do that, however; and fictiional teams got logos replaced also (where there is no obvious default to remove; it just uses the first one that fits or whatever). When we check the box that says not to replace our custom logos, uniforms, etc., that should be it. It should never become unchecked unless we uncheck the box ourselves. Our custom content should never be replaced unless we replace it. The devs might give a reason they absolutely have to allow it to replace our content even when we check the box, though it seems very unlikely, because it's so trivial as far as the functioning of the program; but if they do give a reason the game cannot function without being able to uncheck the box when we try to add a Juco feeder league, for instance, I'll have to accept it. There's a lot I have to do the hard way. I have a number of custom files in the database folder, including a custom injuries file because I want to use OOTP Classic injury frequency, but don't want very long injuries (over about 2 months), or any career enders. Of course I know that it's more realistic if you can lose a guy in May for the season, and if there's also a small chance that a player can go down and end his career, but that's realism I don't want. But it overwrites the injury file each time it updates, so I have to manually replace it (though at least there I can keep a RAR'd copy of the database folder and just have to unzip it every time I update to a new patch, so it's relatively simple). I'm not sure why since I could turn injury frequency down to very low (or if I really wanted to, I could turn it off), they can't have a setting for injury severity that I could set to very low with their "normal" injury frequency. But my logos, colors, uniforms, etc., to some extent with considerably more work than keeping the RAR'd files, could probably usually be saved if I did a lot of extra work, I shouldn't have to, and people who don't know how to play with their file system so would have no chance to do it shouldn't be stuck getting things overwritten. They have the box there to say we don't want it to search for new logos, uniforms, etc.. They just have to make it absolute, that it always is obeyed and that it never gets unchecked unless we uncheck it. Or as I said for emphasis, never ever ever. There is no reason that it should ever replace a logo, etc., when that box is checked-- and make it even easier, give us a box that does that for all teams in the league at once. |

I think you are just referring to the tick boxes on each team logo page?
There is also a tick box on the load game pop up. Make sure that is unticked. |

I play almost exclusively real world games, but I see what you're talking about still in rare occasions. Mostly for me its custom stuff added after the game as started and that's when i began making copies of the four folders that have my modded stuff because most of the time I'd this happen was after updating the game each time there was a new update. I think and again, not a certainty but I am fairly sure the prob;lem for fictional comes from the fact the game is only looking at nicknames since the cities will almost never be exactly the same. So it could actually be a tricky situation for the AI of the game to get right all the time Last edited by BaseballGOAT; 04-03-2021 at 05:39 AM. |

I clicked the box on each team that says not to update the logos, uniforms, etc.. So it should never see the "creating/checking parent team logos." Don't create or check them. The game sometimes likes to ask if I want it to look for "better" logos, and I always rtell it no. At least then it asks. I'm surprised the devs think we want it messing with the logos, enough to ask as often as it does, but at least when it asks I can say no. But sometimes it forces it upon us. Don't!! The logos were being used. The box was checked to say not to change anything. So why ""creating/checking parent team logos"?" I want to yell at the program, "I don't want you to check anything; that was why I checked the box that said not to!" Just leave the ones in the game before, in the game. I added (and then removed by going to the backup to try to get the old logos back, but it didn't work) a Junior College feeder league. Why does it have to do a anything at all to my pro leagues (major or minor) when I do that? Just leave them alone! That's what checking the box is for. |

I have a 500 team custom everything universe and I NEVER had that happen. When you load a league make sure the check for updated logos and uniforms is not checked.

It shouldn't matter because the "lock logos, uniforms" (etc) on my main major league teams were all checked, and when that is locked it should be absolutely locked...but is there something else I can (in this case) uncheck so it doesn't touch existing logos, uniforms, etc. when adding a league? |

in the meantime...
Have a backup folder that contains the exact same subfolder structure as your data/ folder. this way you can just higlight all the impacted folders, and drag/drop + copy over existing files if needed. also, erase the files that are usurping your customized files. they aren't ever 'gone' if you do this (backup data folder with archives), but each update they'll be re-inserted. can create a basic batch file to complete all of these tasks after installation of a newer patch too... simple double click after setup completes will replace all the files and remove any problem files to prevent any unintended automation. Having to stay vigilant about this stuff is definitely frustrating.. do what you can in the meantime to reduce it. e.g. you can append hexadecimal RGB in file names to force a certain team color / secondary color Last edited by NoOne; 04-05-2021 at 04:10 PM. |

And yes, having to stay vigilant because the game keeps overwriting is a major pain. I understand some things it does might be necessary. A dev explained on the boards they can't make the patches only update what's changed in the patch, which I don't remember the reason but it was good enough I accept it, and the biggest consequence is that it overwrites my customized game data files so I have to keep archived versions of the directories I modified to overwrite those overwrites. But the things within a game save, it's a lot trickier to deal with their overwrites, and super frustrating because the devs should know we typically don't want "updating/creating team logos" for a team that has them, and they even give us a box to check to say not to change the team logos (which then lead to the uniforms, etc. being changed)...and there's no excuse for not making that checkmark absolute, that if it's checked then no matter what it doesn't change the logo, uniform, cap, etc.. That checkmark should be absolute. If it's checked, just don't touch the logo, uniforms, etc.. It isn't like data for the whole program, it's data about a team in a specific game save, that never needs to be "updated" if we don't want it updated. |

if it has to be the same name of a data file that exists already, then it had to be fixed after any update. remember, all that stuff is in the archives of teh backup data folder. never worry about deleting stuff. remove the files that keep replacing your intended logos, colors, hats, whatever. google "batch file commands delete copy move" if you ever used DOS, it'll be familiar. It's really simple stuff, i promise. 1 good how-to page will have all the basic commands and formatting for this sort of context. 5mins of pain will save time in long-run. i have to look up the nuances with long gaps between uses... like when/where to use quotes. similar to the fact you already know the steps you have to perform. this will merely do it through a CLI. del these files, copy this directory etc... ==> double-click and done. can't control what they fix, but can make it less painful in meantime. |
