Pitch to Cont??

What does that button Pitch to Cont mean?

It does not appear to mean contact.
There is no tooltip on HOVER.

I'm sure it's Pitch to Contact

The results may be more subtle than you're expecting.

I'd hope, over a large sample, you'd see a decrease in the number of pitchers per plate appearance (and walks and strikeouts, but more hits) when using it

Probably no one has ever checked,

I've had funny experiences with that one and the "Pitch Around" option. I strike guys out with the former and get line drives smashed off me with the latter. Doesn't seem to make any sense sometimes.

It works, but just like in real life, sometimes when you are at the point you have to tell your pitcher "serve it up and stop walking people" or "if this guy gets his bat on the ball you're fined", you have a pitcher that may not be able to put the ball where he wants (or more importantly where you want). And guys like Yogi Berra and Pablo Sandoval are famously hard to "pitch around" because they will/would hit head-high fastballs, sinkers at the shoetops, etc.

As to "pitch to contact", that's the "serve it up and don't walk any" instruction. If your bullpen is burned up and you need some innings out of a guy that is throwing a lot of balls, this is the button for you. You could also use it in lopsided games; if you have a big lead you'd rather give up a solo homer than a base on balls, or three bases on balls. If you're way behind, and stuck with a bum on the mound, make him work for his money and hope they hit some at your defenders.

I always thought it was "Pitch to contain"...

As in stay away from his hot zone.

Thanks for all the guesses : )
So why does no one really know???
What is the big secret from the dev team??
Perhaps a simple tool tip or addition to help manual will stop all the guessing??

It isn't true that no one seems to know. The feature was added in OOTP14.

Announcers talk about it on baseball broadcasts all the time. There is no secret in the game or real life about this.

(Yet its description is missing from the OOTP22 online manual. I've already reported it.)

In the first inning of the broadcast of the Giants-Mariners game last night, Mike Krukow talked at length about how Marco Gonzalez pitches to contact to limit his pitch counts. Anyone with access to MLB.tv can listen to the bottom of the 1st inning.
