Can you expand/clarify? ST games are part of OOTP. They can be simmed and/or played out.

Yes as part of a new game, can you have a spring training “ season”?

I do not believe it is for the start using the quickstarts or standard game for year 1. But Spring Training is available in future years.

I've never understood why OOTP does this when every other sports management sim gives you the pre-season to assess your players and make some moves in the market. Coming in with just a month or so to get a handle on things and shake things up, it's the most fun part!

It's vital to be able to learn how your players might perform (particularly those on the fringes of the active roster) and audition for the five starting spots out of 8-9 candidates, in games that don't matter and without worrying about options, players angry at being demoted etc.

When the game is customisable to the nth degree why can't there be a 'schedule spring training in first season' check box or an option to manually set the game start date?

I realise that in real-life nearly all the moves have been made already and we're on the eve of the season, but that's the same in other management sims, people don't mind essentially re-doing the off-season. In Football Manager the game starts in early July but you might have players in your squad who were signed in August in real-life. We can't get all hung up on 'realism' when the Reds apparently have $45M in payroll budget just lying around that they haven't bothered spending despite heading for a 72-90 season

I've read a number of topics where you can apparently fool the game into starting earlier by creating a random league with an earlier date, then importing your template into that, but I haven't managed to get that to work in OOTP22, the earliest I can get is 5th March but with no ST.

The default quickstart games start on March 5th for the first season, so you wont get a full Spring.

BUT, if you go into options, change Spring Training duration to 3 weeks, and then uncheck and re-check schedule Spring Training, the game will generate a shortened Spring Training before the first season begins.

Really? My fifth straight version of this game, thousands of hours, hundreds of new 'saves' and I find this out now?
Time to start a new save. I never knew you could do this.
Thanks.
