I was a big fan. Same age as me and I complain about how I feel.

RIP Hagler. One of the greats. Still think he was robbed against Leonard.

A true legend and an all-time great, what a legacy he leaves. I am reminded of the quote from the sportswriter Jimmy Cannon when he heard of Rocky Marciano's death, "Just start counting ten over him, he'll soon get up."
RIP Champ. |

Max Kellerman had a nice tribute to Hagler to open his show today.
He mentioned his fight vs Ray & said his fighting righty & trying to box those 1st 4 rounds was a mistake and cost him so he was down 4-0 & doesn't think Hagler won 7 of the last 8 rounds to earn a decision. I agree. |

Yeah that's how I've always seen it too, Hagler gave the first four rounds away, which made it difficult for him to win a decision over 12 rounds. I have never seen it as a robbery though, just a close fight that could have gone either way. People who say Hagler was robbed or you have to definitively take the title off the champ, I have no time for that type of opinion. |

A job I had years ago guys there thought Ray needed to knock down or KO Hagler to take the title & I told those guys it's called boxing for a reason. |

One thing I have learned; how to start an argument in a boxing group, bring up the Hagler - Leonard result! Not that we are arguing in this forum anyway.

I've watched that fight many times and I have always thought Hagler won the fight. But by no means was it a robbery. However the 118-110 scorecard for Leonard was a little ridiculous

Yeah that was the Mexican judge Jo Jo Guerrera (?) who turned in that ridiculous scorecard. He was a late replacement for Harry Gibbs, a UK judge who the Hagler camp objected to. Sat at home Gibbs scored the fight for Hagler. |
