CEI - What happens to remaining years of contract???

So I just had my first CEI..and the guy happens to have 4 years left on his contract. So what happens to that money? He's still sitting on my 60-Day DL...he didn't retire or anything. Will he at the end of the season? Do I end up paying the remaining years of his contract? Hello Jacoby Ellsbury??

He retires at seasons end and the rest of the contract goes away.

Is it possible for an injury to end up becoming a career-ender? Like, a player sustains a major injury, suffers setbacks and after a year or two the player officially retires? This happens a lot IRL due to players wanting to milk out as much money from the contract as they can.

that was exactly my scenario. I have edited the injury txt file and removed all automatic CEIs. This player has had 3 seasons full of injuries and the last one he was 4 months into an 8 month recovery when I got the message that recovery was not going well and his career was over.

Yes, I've played around 125 seasons and this has happened around 5 times to players on my teams and also happens to other players in the league. I lost a stud 5 star SP in his 2nd season to a career ending injury. That sucked.

You do know you can always reverse supposed CEI's for anyone if and when you like, supposing you're in Commissioner Mode, of course, don't you? I generally do that in my games, if the players are young enough in my view to do that, in truth, folks. CD out.

I've seen commissioner mode mentioned multiple times in various threads but I have never seen that option in my saves. I did regular start from whatever day in 2020 it was with the 2 leagues I've done. Where is this setting at? Do I have to choose it before I start the game?

Manager settings or something like that. You can change it any time. Not applicable if you've selected challenge mode.

I had Bob Friend not retire until the end of the following season after a CEI.

On the other hand, you can also retire a player. Right-click on a player and the second to last option is Retire. You may have to be in commish mode for this too. (in case the player does not retire on his own).

Right above your mailbox on the right side menu is a home screen button. Hit that, then just below the main game's main menu field, hit Manager Options. Over on the right is what you want.

that's true...I'll eat the salary this year and pay him out..and then if he doesn't retire in the offseason I'll force it at that point since I'm pretty sure a player has never attempted a comeback from a CEI in OOTP (which would be kinda cool...like if there is a different "retired" flag for CEIs or something)
