Olympics and Computer Transfer

Hey guys,

Couple quick questions:

1) Do NHL'ers now play in the Olympic Tourny?

2) I'm about to buy this for my old Mac. If I was to ever purchase a new computer or Mac would I be able to transfer over saved games in FHM?

Thanks!

1. For now, Yes

2. Yes. You'd just need to copy and paste it.

The maximum amount of foreigner function don't seem to work in my history mode, there are still too many in some of the teams. Is this a known issue?
Becouse it has nothing to do with where the League is registered in terms of Region and Nation, right?

And while i'm at it, NHL'ers in the Olympics also in history mode?

Looks like the foreign restriction isn't working properly with the Canadian teams in historical, there are a couple of additional settings for handling those rules in multinational leagues that we probably need to add to League-Edit for that to work properly, I'll see if we can get them into the update.

NHL-contracted players aren't allowed in the Olympics in the appropriate years. It's not a perfect representation of the way the amateur-only rules worked for much of that period, but it's the closest we can come in game terms.

In one of my leagues I play as an observer only (Commissioner in a solo league). I occasionally get job offers that I, of course, refuse. I am assuming the game creates these openings so that any unemployed users can get a job, but I don't want one. My question: If I were to select the "Retire" option would I still be able to be an observer only with the powers of a commissioner? I assume retiring would keep jobs from being offerred.

If you retire, your character is done. That won't work. The only thing you could do would be to a new character who is really, really old and that would likely stop most job offers.

In a custom game with multiple leagues, is there any way to transfer contracted players between the leagues?

EDIT- To clarify, I'm wondering if there's an option to do this without having to use Commissioner Mode. Basically I'm asking if the soccer-style transfer system exists in custom games.

Not at the moment - it's possible to turn the transfer system on for a league on July 1, but that'll only allow transfers within the league. I'll see if it'll be possible to add inter-league transfers, but I suspect there may be some AI issues will need to work out first.

Just wondering, I've just noticed that my ECHL affiliate has no GM and only 10 players on September 1st. Will it auto fix?

Yes, they'll add enough players to fill out the lineup by the time they get to their first preseason game.

Scouting level

Does the amount of scouting make any difference to the second scouting rating, or is the second rating entirely dependent on player development (or some random element) ?

For example , if I have a player who is Ad rated and add him to my watch list, will he eventually become Aa, Ab or Ac etc...more quickly than if I didn't have him on my watch list at all? I'm also assuming here that my scouts see enough of him in future to maintain the first A rating.

Two little ones about the draft:

Is the mock draft my scouts or "central scouting"? I've seen a guy with 3.5* potential rated as a 207th pick by the mock draft and then picked 2nd overall.

Also, there seems to be a lack of Canadians in the draft after year 3. Maybe just an anomaly.

Also, just started year 5, no salary cap movement?

They're mostly unrelated. The scouting level just shows how many times the player has been scouted recently. The only connection success chance has to scouting level is that it gets reassessed every time the player is scouted again (which will also change the scouting level if it's under A, so you may see them change at the same time); but the calculation itself uses the scouting ability of the team's scouts to make an estimate of the player's chance of reaching his potential, depending on several factors (Aging, Development Rate, Coachability, etc.)

Neither, it's intended as the sort of mock drafts published by unaffiliated scouting organizations or the media, like the rankings from Bob McKenzie, Eliteprospects, or ISS. So the rankings can be deliberately questionable at times (although I think I need to make it a little more dependent on potential to avoid that kind of situation.)

It should balance out over time. It's been a little more difficult to get information on the players in their younger teens this year, with the restrictions on play in many areas over the last year, so that's probably showing up in the database in the moment. I'll be doing another review of the youngest guys for the final trading-deadline update.

No, the salary cap, like all the financial baselines, is fixed.

There was another guy same draft rated 100+ mock and went 5th. Guy I got 1st round was predicted to go a lot later, but he was already "NHL ready". Thing they all have in common: KHL players.

I guess I should just continue to trust my scout ratings ahead of the mock draft. Thanks for the replies

Ah, that's interesting. KHL and especially because of contract situations defintely makes it murkier when drafting players. Anyone who watches our Wednesday night streams knows I typically (myself) stay away from KHLers because you don't know when/if they will come. There's more NHL teams seemingly moving that way too unless it's a real big can't-miss prospect.

Would it be possible to get a mail message on June 23 to let you know that the window to sign draft picks has opened? This used to happen when the NHL Entry Draft happened, but no longer since the draft is in July now.

It's a nice reminder to check your unsigned list to sign any drafted players before June 30 when their rights expire.

Yeah, that makes sense, I'll see if we can restore it or do something similar.
