DFA - Team Option Question

Question I've had trouble finding addressed on these forums or on the Reddit page.

I have a pitcher I'm considering DFA'ing. He still has a couple years left on his contract but has a team option next season. If I DFA him this season, what happens to the team option? Does it automatically void? I don't want to DFA him and then the option go away and I'm on the hook for the rest of the contract. Anyone know how it works in the OOTP world?

Thanks.

DFA the whole contract becomes guaranteed. Unless another team signs him.

No, if you release a player, it will treat Team Options as if they are declined. Any Player Option, Player Opt-Out, or Vesting Options do, however, count as guaranteed salary.

DFA is not the same as releasing a player. DFA is the precursor to an assignment or a release. If you release him you would be on the hook for the $.
